LoonyPandora - Daft Cow?

Daft Cow?

Just so I remember what I've been fixing the past few days...

FIXED:
• Forgot Password Works
• Added Search
• Added Memberlist (sortable by clicking on the headers at the top)
• Added Edit Time Window Back
• New favicon
• Random Quotes back
• Show All previous posts by a member
• Added more icons for twitter, myspace etc on profile page
• Added new posts in board indicator to front page
• Posts in hidden boards show up in recent posts on front page
• Fixed URL's not automatically linking
• Fixed "Days since online" in users profiles (updated once per day)
• Added board images (check the gallery for example)
• Shoutbox shows the time of the shout when you hover over the name
• Changed line between sigs and posts, and greyed sigs out slightly make it easier to tell the difference
• changed tab order of cancel/post in the reply box so tab+enter should post instead of cancel.
• custom 404 pages
• new "in maintenance" page
• new top of page design (to fit the new options in)
• Experimenting with google ads for guests only (money earned so far: £0.00)
• Fixed uploading pictures sometimes having no title (pending confirmation)
• Mods should be able to access hidden boards, without losing their mod powers
• Added archives link to shoutbox
• made clicking refresh on shoutbox NOT scroll you to top of the page
• Fixed recent photo comments intermittently not showing up
• Made the spinner for the inline boxes semi-transparent to look nicer
• A bunch of behind-the-scenes things that no-one could notice (better error detection, redirection etc)

• Fixed profiles not being editable from view profile
• Added new mod ability to fix threads with missing pages
• made the admin link for mods not make you scroll to the top of the page
• Pages shouldn't go screwy anymore on new threads. And mods can fix old threads that have the problem of "missing" pages
• Polls are back - and all the old ones are still there, with all your votes intact.
• Clock is back
• Next Previous Thread links in the footer
• All boards listed in the footer, easier than the old drop down, and better for google.
• Polls work properly in the gallery - photos can have polls too!
• Finally finally fixed the old gmt/bst posts-showing-up-an-hour-out bug
• Fixed pagination on searches
• fixed old quotes not working correctly.
• PM Deletion
• Shouts are now counted (though I've not found somewhere to show this yet)
• Add more smileys are back

TODO:
• Add More Smileys
• Polls
• Thread icons (birthday cake, exclamation mark, etc)
• Colour Schemes
• Email Notification
• PM Deletion
• Custom template for mobile devices (so it's usable)
• Fix page numbers getting screwy sometimes
• Add clock back
• Add shout count as well as post count
• Fix pagination on search results
• Fix polls for photos in the gallery
• All link to show all posts in a thread
• Drop down box to select specific page in thread
• Prev/Next thread links
• Drop down to change boards

QUESTIONS:
• Does Firefox still get broken when you use facebook in another tab?
• Can people edit their profiles, from the "settings" link, and the "edit profile" bit on their own page - fixed
• Uploading avatars, does this work for people, any major issues? - fixed

• Any blindingly obvious, major errors that I've not mentioned in this post?

Mods: If a thread gets missing pages (like this one just did now) - you can use the edit thread function at the bottom (admin->edit thread) - and increase the number of replies by one or two to get the page to show up.

It shouldn't happen on new threads, but older threads may have the number of replies a bit wonky due to a but I just fixed - so just keep it in mind.

last time i checked, PMs sent here no longer get sent to your email inbox.

is that fixed?

Not yet, it's on the todo list though. It's listed as email notification on my list because it applies to getting emails when there are new posts in the forum too.

Polls are back. Please test and let me know if you have any issues.

I know multiple choice polls aren't back, they are coming. I thought it was more important to have some sort of pollage back.

And the clock is back - though that doesn't really need much testing...

Updated a few more things with polls, they work in the gallery now. Also did a few minor HTML fixes for alignment.

Check the earlier post for the rest of the fixes.

Are any other problems that I've not listed?

James, old bean.

I have noticed an odd bug with the 'last online' section of a persons profile, looks like it relates specifically to users who don't exist here, as such but were on old vr?

Yup, just affects older members, not really a "bug" - just I don't have a date for when they were last online, so it defaults to Jan 1st 1970. I suppose I could just make it say "never been online" or something like that.

Quote: Claire, Oct 2009
Oh, apparently I haven't been online for two days.

Showing as less than a day for me. Remember it only changes once a day at 5am, or whenever you log in. Hmm, suppose could make it update whenever you post something as well. That would make sense.

That should be fixed now. Only mods should be able to delete polls.

Well done for all the good work and changes and things, James the LoonyPandora.

Something that hasn't been mentioned (i don't think), it used to be possible to modify thread titles.

Also, i don't know if this is just me, but it seems like a lot of photos from the Gallery have disappeared. In the Members photo section, the photos on the last/ oldest page are from 2005 but there used to be photos from earlier than that.

I fixed the search so you get more than one page of results now.

If someone is hammering VR by searching through their old posts constantly, or doing lots of searching it will cause the rest of VR to go a bit slower - I think that was what was causing the problems earlier, judging by the log files.

Mods can modify thread titles, but normal users can't. I think before it was only if you started a thread you could change the title? If so, I'll have a go at putting it back like that.

And the older pictures thing... I didn't notice that - I will double check and see what files I have.

Looks like there are a lot of pictures missing, I'll try and restore them from the backup, but it might take a while. i.e a couple of days

OK, some more

• if someone has never logged in, it doesn't show that they last logged in 39 years ago.
• Posting, or using the shoutbox now updates your "last online" time in your profile
• Edit boxes aren't so temperamental in posts.
• searching for things with spaces in now works.

You can now delete PM's! Good thing is, if someone replies to a PM you deleted, you get all the history back too, so you don't get confused by talking about something in a message that isn't there anymore.

And extra smileys are back. [YaBB-Dude.gif]

They are all a bit crap though - so if you have any good smileys, chuck 'em my way and I'll put 'em online.

You'll probably have to clear the caches on your browser to get all the new CSS to show up. VR will probably look a bit f*cked until you do that - but please let me know if it's still messy after you clear caches.

I'm sure people are annoyed at the rate of me posting in here - but it's quite re-assuring seeing the stuff that I've fixed. My memory is bad so I often think that I've done f*ck all, but seeing a big long list reminds me that I've done a fair amount.

• Mods will notice IP addresses on posts are back. (with a link to the whois database too)
• Polls don't go screwy when you forget to select an option (causing a core dump)
• If you forget to fill in a required field, the submit button doesn't get disabled because of the anti-double submit javascript (annoying, because you had to reload the page to post whatever it is you were writing)
• Improved error handling when VR is busy.
Total Google AdSense earnings to date: £0.06 - knew it wouldn't work on here.

VR is now in a state where I'd say it was a good enough replacement for the old VR. If it was up to me, I'd have waited until now to convert to the new VR... but hey.

I'm going to add the "all" link to pages, different thread icons, and other colour schemes - then call it quits for a while.

Any final bugs, or feature requests before I finish up this round?

How long's it been up? A few days? It all adds up.

Is it at all possible not to be subscribed to a thread? Say there was a thread you had no interest in, but kept reading out of a horrible completist-ness, because it keeps appearing in new posts? Any way to deal with that beyond actually getting a life?

In some of the older photos in the Gallery; where people have posted comments, it doesn't say their names, it says Old Gallery where it should say their names.

Yeah, there is no way to fix that - I didn't store the names of who uploaded photos from the old gallery.

Also, I'm going to get the old photos uploaded again - that's on the list.

True, but at this rate, I'd have less than £3 a year, and the idea was to try and make VR self sufficient, so around £10 a month. I'll see how it goes though, doing no-one any harm atm

And no easy way other than getting a life I'm afraid

I just tried to open this thread and I got "Fission Mailed" and there was an ad for Evony.

Oh yeah, btw - if you've been getting a lot of fission mailed's - it's because I've been working on VR pretty much 24/7, and if you catch it before I've finished making a change, it'll do that.

From now on, you shouldn't see it very often at all.
