The Crows

They are out to get me, I know it, see them everywhere. When I get up in the mornings and look out my window, they're there. On the way to work, they're there. And when I get to work they are here too.

What do they want? Maybe they want to be my friend, maybe they want to eat me, maybe they want the loaf of bread I attach to my coat so that old people won't talk to me. Who knows?

YeahYeahYeah

Did you not consider these hazards when you joined the crow sanctuary?

What do Voiders make of someone who spends a lot of their money on gig tickets, but then can't afford to buy the CD and downloads illegally instead? They're still supporting bands in some form. It's not always black and white. Baby Grumpling

I recently illegally downloaded some Limp Bizkit songs, then bought their Greatest Hits album for £5 from my local Asda. Does this make me doubly wrong? Stardog

My heart bleeds when I think of all your poor little mites who resolve your "poverty " by downloading music from an expensive computer onto prissy software. Boo hoo. Attilathehood

First, Steve Nicks says most bands are obscenely rich, then he claims 99% of illegal downloads are from skint kids. Make your mind up and stop pulling "facts" from the air. As for Tyler, if he wanted the VAC album so much, he paid the £40 for it. NPW

She's trying to be rebellious. We are in the ISCRA (University of Nottinghamposh-talk for computer room). She's eating fruit. That's naughty.

And before, she told me off for actually working in an lecture.

I have a new love: Southern blues metal. I was already a fan of Down and Corrosion of Conformity, and now listen to Blackstone Cherry, Clutch and Jerry Cantrell. Heavier metal is a bit stale right now, indie needs a bushfire to ravage the weeds, but whisky-soaked grooves with a dash of wah-wah are perfect for the sunshine. Scary Guy

Box Clever

I am intrigued by the phrase: "mad as a box". I've met many boxes in my time, but I've never met one that was mad.

Well, actually there was this one box that was gibbering away and could be mistaken for mad, but he was on medication at the time. So...

Mad boxes, anyone?

I admit I download illegally, but only Japanese artists who HMV charge £40 to order and I can't find anywhere else. I wouldn't have got into Phantasmagoria, Dir En Grey, Gackt or Lareine if it wasn't for downloads. I'm no big fan of opera (in actual fact, I can't stand it), but imagine if there was a Zine one. Or a Zine musical, at any rate. Or even if they get Teletext to sing out our letters! You turn to p382 and a warbling voice blasts from your TV about gay giraffes. How many people could you scare?

MMM... Lunch

A friend of mine goes to the supermarket every day to get her lunch. It consists of: Two Marmite rolls, Doritos, Fanta, chocolate Buttons and jelly snakes all washed down with a half pint of semi-skimmed milk. She then tells me she's feeling sick.

And me? After becoming outraged at my local chippy for not supplying mayonnaise, I now enjoy a Kit Kat and a cup of water. Lurvely.

Dark Knight is the best

My film of the year is The Dark Knight. It may be the popular choice but that doesn't mean it shall be denied my vote (and the way I see it, if Javier Bardem can win an Academy Award for his role in Anton Chigurh in the sublime No Country For Old Men then Heath Ledger's Joker should be awarded on default!).

My current favourite foreign film? Downfall, easily. And The Mist, one of the unsung mainstream delights of 2008. I loved it! Steve Martin

I would jump on the bandwagon in reaction to something someone said recently, but the trouble is I can't find a band or a wagon that takes my fancy. Speaking of wagons, my dad once got given a bicycle that fell off the back of one. It was all egitimate of course, if ya' kna' what I mean.

Rich A, be careful of supporting widespread denunciation of offensive lyrics. This risks putting music into a lyrical cul-de-sac. Conservative politicians could, in turn, ban songs with perceived 'anti-establishment' undertones. Thus no punk or hip-hop, among others. My CD collection would be stripped bare! Antonio Gramsci

I'm ecstatic to read that LCD System are not splitting up. Here's to the new album! Esther

Christian Music Rocks

There's nothing wrong with listening to Christian music recreationally! And I'd just as happily listen to Green Day or Gwen Stefani.

But in most cases, the Christian music is actually better than mainstream stuff!

Anyway, more to the point, I sure could go for a crumpet right now.

Hurri

Is Gwen Stefani, or Green Day your top pop crumpet?

No offence to Kat Lister, but I'd like to hear what Earls thinks of the new Killers album and what mark he'd give it out of ten. Any chances? Ramsay

Let's face it, Girls Aloud are a bunch of Barbie dolls who are a bit vain. Funny that when we get a gorgeous (or the offensive term "pretty boys") hunky boyband, there are snide jibes from bitter men who resent blokes being fit and good looking. Paul Wilson

I've got a new glass jar

And I've filled my great jar with some really neato stuff, including several slices of dark, four solid cubes of air, a piece of God (the actual God from space) and a hairbrush that once belonged to Paul Daniels.

Speaking of Paul Daniels, I've seen his wife. And she wasn't all that...

I hope that's just God's space suit you've got...?

Evette, looking for an Alice In Chains album: it's the obvious one, but get Dirt. Phenomenal. Its only flaw is a failed joke track that's over within a minute, everything else will rock you like a duel-voiced hurricane. Full of mud.

£3 for me back when Music Zone existed, and now packaged with unplugged on a popular blue, orange and white free delivery UK shop site. Vigilante Maelstrom

Imperfect People

There are a lot of irritating people with whom I associate at the moment. You know the kind: self-righteous, sanctimonious, arrogant... who won't listen to reason. And really, if a train is late at its starting point, then obviously it's going to continue being late at all subsequent stations.

How hard is it to work that one out? I feel I have a number of complaining letters to write.

elden ray

I know, just got the train in with them. Thank Jaffa I sit on the roof.

Moving lyrics? How about Mott The Hoople frontman Ian Hunter: "How can I put into words what my heart feels". The song was Michael picasso, written about guitarist Mick Ronson and his battle with cancer. Michael Boyle

Cannibal is a top film

I agree with Anon that killing animals for their meat is just as violent as killing them for a movie. I also disagree with reviewer Victor Olliver giving Cannibal Holocaust 1/5. Aaron, Yorks

comic critic

I'd totally forgotten about Look Around You, series one, with the periodic element symbol for music (Mu) and the experiment that made the man go into a state where he was permanently just about to sneeze- that was great. But I just don't get the new series.

Dare To Believe has "borrowed" the explosions from Monty Python- there is a lack of random explosions in comedy these days, not to mention otters.

The Spontaneously Combusting Penguin

And the symbol for giraffe is JAF. Love it.

I won't see Cannibal

Re: Anon's pro-veggie rant which had nowt to do with films. If animals weren't farmed for meat, what would the farmers do with all animals? They don't keep them for fun. But as a meat-eating animal lover, I don't like to see cruelty in any fims so I won't be seeing Cannibal Holocaust. Gem, Wrexham

Vortex: This was my point. It is plain aniimals were cruelly treated on the movie. For a while Holocaust was also regarded as a snuff movie. (VO)
