Farm fashion

If farmers are going to paint their sheep, you'd think they'd at least put some effort into it. Most sheep, you see, just have a coloured blotch on their backs. Now, if I were a sheep, I'd much prefer a nice stripy pattern, maybe some emo stars... I like stars.

One Winged Angel

Modern slides

At last: a reason to visit Tate Modern that isn't to mooch in the book shop: slides! "Weeee"- that's the noise I made, hurtling down the slides; today, in class. Of course, when another type of artist takes to the slide and goes "Weeee," they'll spoil it for everyone; or, as my art teacher said, "They might create a piece of folk art"- which is her euphemism for number twos.

lord sebastian flyte

"Weeees" and "twos"? Who says the Zine has gone down the toilet?

Magazine's return excites me in a way that Blur doesn't. The one receives too little attention, the other too much. "My irritability keeps me alive and kicking"- what a line. And, of course, Magazine influenced Blur anyway. Rob Hunt

Ju-On Dalek's letter isn't in dubious taste, eh? I beg to differ! Perhaps he could suggest the idea in person for the so-called "uglies" to see what they think of it.

Beauty is the eye of the beholder, you say, WL? That's just what ugly people say. If you have a face like a bag of spanners, then I'm sorry- you're not going to win beauty pageants.

Now that we're in the last year of the decade- one that never did find a name- can anyone suggest a great band from it? The Strokes didn't live up to their debut, The Libertines imploded and Pete Doherty's buffoonery has sullied their name.

Arctic Monkeys might qualify, but I'd suggest there's only Arcade Fire who have emerged from nowhere to get the majority of music fans' respect and remained exciting. Kanye's Vest

Who'd Have Known on Lily Allen's new album does indeed sound like Take That's Shine- she asked permission from them to use it. I've missed the wit of LDN and Alfie, and the new single The Fear is brilliant.

Also, I disagree with Earls that The View's album title Which B*tch? is s*xist. Kyle Falconer says it means "Which b*tch am I singing about?". It's about girls who broke his heart. Ross Q

I like Arcade Fire, but I think they're too leftfield to be considered the band of the decade. I nominate Muse, a band who have grown with each album to become stadium-fillers and festival headliners without compromising any of their integrity.

There's only one band worthy of being named band of the decade, and that's The White Stripes. Like their fellow Detroiters the stooges and MC5, they remind us that the best rock & roll is raw and primal and that we shouldn't let it be hijacked by corporate stadium artists like Muse and coldplay.

Their fusing of blues and garage was a revelation, and they've remained the only band worth following this decade. Simon Franklin

In view of the current weather, may I remind people of the words of that great survival expert Frank Zappa? "Watch out where the huskies go, don't you eat the yellow snow." DJ Gordy

Elbow's performance of The Seldom Seen Kid with the BBC Concert Orchestra was incredible. Not only did I feel like crying for numerous reasons, but it finally convinced me that it's better than their Leaders of The Free World album. And that's some feat. Mr Alston

A(N) (A)Typical Day

Rain. People. Bus stop. Puddle. Ducks. Lorry. Accelerate. Impending doom. Grimaces. More rain. Big splash. Drenched. Feathers. Muddy. Duck pate. Free dinner. Why can't things just happen like in the adverts, where the culprit get sucked down into Oblivion? Why are bus stops always built in front of puddles? *Sigh*.

elden ray

Because the drivers are no good with moving targets, silly.

Did Earls listen to The All American Rejects' new single before reviewing it? Words like "soppy" and "ballad" suggest not, as it's pretty much the opposite of that! Is it too much to ask that PS shelve the anti-pop punk petulance for a change? At times like this, it makes you look misinformed. Mitch Bain

Earls: As mentioned, AAR were once a cut above their peers, but the new one is down with the genre's worst.

No matter what they say

The Barking Tree If you'd seen inside a pepperpot like I have, you'd join me in questioning Dalek's idea of ugly. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

P*ts, kettle, pepper... we're all hot in our own ways.

Your Country Needs You was a fix. Didn't the winner used to call herself Javine? It's no surprise, but the song is awful too. Andrew Lloyd Webber shouldn't count his chickens that we'll do any better this year. Dionne Jones

For '00s band when albums get public and critics' acclaim, headline festivals and generate media interest without manipulation and have proven to to be great collaborators, then The White Stripes must win. Scott Chadwick

We are family

If horses are equines and elephants are pachyderms, what are giraffes? Also, they say beauty is skin deep. Well, there are a lot of inside-out people lurking about.

Enigma

Giraffdae, that's what. It could have been Okapidae, but they were outvoted.

VIP (Very Important Post)

What is the point of massive queues at the post office? I only want a few stamps, not to stand around for a few hours, waiting to be told they haven't any left. This is the state of England these days...

Haryuu No Hanekata

You need to get on the guest list; that way you jump the queue straight away.

Three minutes after watching Elbow's performance with the BBC Concert Orchestra, I was on their website ordering the box set of the show. Such an event needs to be treasured for years to come. Also, am I alone in thinking Colin Murray on Radio 1 is an intelligent, talented broadcaster who champions good music? Mark Muldoon

Prince didn't say he'd release three albums in January, just in 2009. Just be thankful he's still prolific. Fi Rose
