Mad Musings

Gorilla gangster Disaster! I bought my mum Robbie's new album for Crimbo. But don't worry. I bought myself a Manics album to make it a healthy balance.

I'd compare it to cake and carrot.

Rayve On I just learned to lip read when the sound goes off on Big Brother.

I prefer to listen to the tweeting.

Confused Pirate The others? Four hobo men on a fishing boat. Ooh, spooky.

Where was the fifth?

Conor Oberst's solo album is great but it doesn't reach the dizzying height of his Bright Eyes catalogue. Everything from Fevers And Mirrors to Cassadaga is genius. Lem Fatale

Modern music reflects modern society: hear today, gone tomorrow (sorry). Few artists push the boundaries in the way King Crimson and Henry used to. Music can still evolve, but these times demand the instantaneously accessible. Steve Oldhippy

Green Awareness Day

I think that the Zine should have some new entry rules to promote Green Day awareness.

1) All Ziners must love Green Day.
2) Fights must not break out over who is the fittest in Green Day (cough, cough, Tre Cool).
3) Somebody should probably write in to say that Mike is the fittest.

The Purple Pesky Panda

What will the next installment be?

My Horrible Town

You think your town is really bad? As I write, I spy a procession of drag queens; loud, foul-mouthed, drunken, spotty teens clutching cider passed out on the road; tramps (OK, trainee hookers).

Or I would see, if I weren't choking in the smog, swamped in the litter and collapsing due to the stench.

elden ray

Hatter for Batman

The next Batman film should have The Mad Hatter as the villain, and the story should be more psychological. They would need to keep the 12/ 12A rating, but there is room for aggressive expression!

I hope the rumours are not true about casting Johnny Depp as The riddler, or the studio may as well hand the film over to Schumacher! Mark Harwood, Surrey

Too many remakes

I was rather disturbed that the news section (4/ 12) reported about these remakes that are in development (Arthur, Romancing The Stone and They Live). Are there no decent scripts/ ideas for films which haven't already been made once?

I've lost count of the number of films that are being remade. The one remake that's supposedly on its way that I really wish they'd left alone is H*llraiser. Andrew Marsden, Lancs

Just recently saw The Mist, I can't believe how overrated it has been on these pages. It was unscary, silly and had unconvincing SFX. Mechanic Monkey Dalek, thanks for the invitation, but I don't drink tea. I'm vegetarian.

Tea for one then, Dalek.

My "TOWN"

Apart from the usual influx of chavs and the burnt-out cans that inevitably follow, I'd like to point out that I have no town.

I live in a quarry. It's not too bad though, I get all the limestone I want. Anybody want any limestone?

Paddy Irishman

I'd prefer a million quid.

Meat chat with a lion

Rebecca Nahid, Hants (re cannibal holocaust). If eating meat is so abominable in your eyes, go down to your nearest zoo, hop into the lion enclosure and lecture them about the morality of doing so. I know who I'd back in that argument. Adam, Selkirk

Lightfooted Leprechaun

T'was only two nights ago, when I was awoken by a leprechaun hitting me with a stick. The leprechaun accused me of stealing his pot of gold. I sternly told him I had nothing to do with his "pot of gold".

Then he knocked me out with his stick. I don't remember much after that.

The Purple Pesky Panda

I bet the leprechaun had a right craic.

I agree with DJ Gordy, Richard Hawley was wonderful at the devil's A**e Cave in Derbyshire. What a performer he is. Wigan Tony

Four gigs in two months hardly constitutes a gig binge. I regularly went to that many in a week when I was a teenager. The Doc

Why No January Songs?

Why are there no songs written about January? I keep finding myself whistling Jingle Bells and (shudder) Mistletoe And Wine while I'm washing up, yet Christmas is over. This is probably the point where someone reels off a list of January-related songs and calls me stupid.

The One With The Mighty Antlers

Stupid.

I agree with Coco that Beth Ditto is a poor role modeL. It indicates the shallow nature of indie fashion: oppose the masinstream with an equal amount of idiocy, so that the mainstream's skinny worship becomes NME's adoration of the obese. Didn't they vote her s*xiest female? How contrived. MA Goulden

If Aberdareblue is after West Coast-influenced bands, he should check out South Wales' own The Ash & The Oak, who have an album out. Countrymile
