Observation

Recently, I've been noticing how quickly you've been printing my (and presumably everyone else's) letters.

Kudos to you for this, WLW, or whatever your name is.

In other news, the cat that comes into our house just coughed, and a little bit of sick came up. Coincidence?
Topper

Your cat's been sick, Topper? Hold the front page!

Drivers

Why is it that, when the sign says 40 miles per hour and one is moving along the road in one's automobile travelling in said speed, there's always some smart-alec wiseguy to overtake you?

Isn't that what's called breaking the speed limit and subsequently, the law? Or is their 40 miles per hour different than mine?
The Cat's Underwear

40 miles per hour? What does that mean? I live in London, remember.

RIP, Les Paul

I'd like to pay tribute to Les Paul, the great-grandfather of rock & roll. Leaving aside his virtuosity as a great guitarist, Les was a pioneer of multi-track recording.

People tend to overlook this, with other seminal producers like George Martin and Brian Wilson given too much credit for the development of the recording studio as an instrument. I hope Les' achievements will be acknowledged in future. Joe O'Connor

After extensive mental conditioning and introspection, I have developed psychic abilities which I shall prove to you.

The majority of you are thinking: "What kind of name is Norman Radcliffe?"

Oddly enough, Topper and dr namgge are thinking about toothpaste.

Let The Verve be a lesson to you

The Verve's latest split is both a shame and unsurprising. I thought Forth was OK. Some of the songs like Noise Epic sounded like a jam jar, in the case of Rather Be, something from Richard Ashcroft's solo albums.

The split should be a lesson to bands who are contemplating reforming: it rarely works. They should only reform if they have a score to settle, rather than because the last singer's last solo album went belly up. Ted Robinson

If Drummers Were Dairy Products

Joey Jordison (Slipknot): Mini Babybel. Little, adorable, my fave.
Dave Lombardo (Slayer): Blue Stilton. Powerful stuff, but not for everyone.
Bill Ward (Sabbath): Milk: essential to diet.
Tommy Lee (Motley Crue): Mozzarella. Fabulously cheesy.

Kaiser becomes a stone?

I agree with Earls that it's morally dubious of Ricky Wilson to play a rock star dating a schoolgirl played by Sarah Harding in the new St Trinian's film. On the other hand, the experience should give him a good chance of landing the lead role in the mooted new biopic of bill wyman. DJ Gordy

I prefer Arcade Fire's Neon Bible to Funeral. It's more varied and has the amazing No Cars Go, which beats even Rebellion hans down. Jude Green

The joy of 7 Worlds Collide

The 7 Worls Collide gig at London Dingwalls on Tuesday was a sheer joy, especially in such a small venue, and it was all for Oxfam. Get their album The Sun Came Out on August 31- all new songs by Neil Finn with Johnny Marr, Wilco, KT Tunstall, Liam Finn and Radiohead's Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien.

As well as being the best melody writer around, Finn is a great frontman for the band. Here's hoping the line-up tours the UK one day. Adam Samuels

It's certainly different. On the plus side, I get to wear my new suit with a flags-of-the-world tie. Very dapper, if I say so myself.

However, the Common Room can only be described as a small piece of Hades, being awash with litter by 9am and full, mostly, of idiots. And they think we can eat in them! I'd rather face the wasps outside.

More Les Paul tributes

Les Paul was a genius. Not only was he the inventor of one of the greatest (and heaviest) electric guitars ever built, but he also invented many things in recording such as multi-tracking. He lived to a great age at 94, but there are some people who you wish could live forever. RIP. SJD

The Simpsons

I watched The Simpsons' debut on Channel 4 on Bonfire Night, which led to the best comic timing ever. When Homer tried to detonate the bomb at the dolphins, straight after he "detonated" it, a firework went off outside.

I have noticed a sudden fashion among the townie population for none other than string vests.

What's all that about?

I imagine The Brigadier wears a string vest, but townie girls? It's as wrong as a fashion for flat caps. It's like they're talking my Grandad as a style icon.

Nightmare

I had an absurdly scary nightmare last night. I dreamt that each of my fingers had their own tiny hands with miniscule fingers.

However, it gets worse. Next thing I knew I was taking my friends at uni when the right hand of my thumb and the right hand of my index finger decided to enter into a two hour thumb war contest, rendering my entire future obsolete. Scary stuff.

I've just discovered it. I used to hate it when I was a wee girl but it tastes good with just about anything. Pringles, lettuce, chocolate and biscuits to name a few.

Crunchy peanuts with smoothbuttery peanuts. Yum, its sublime. Sublime, funny word.

While out in the rain today with my mother, I discovered just how useful they are. I mean, they keep the rain off you and when you gethome you are dry.

Kerry Clonetona

Whilst jiving in the basement, I heard some spooky noise coming from the old wardrobe. I walked over and pulled the handle. All I could see was seven corpuscles of light, 58 signed pictures of Kerry Katona, and the hazard lights from my old car. The funny thing was, I only had 43 pictures of Kerry. DUN-DUN-DAAAAAA!!!

My Crazy Dreams

I am worried about all the dreams I have been having recently. All my friends kept turning into animals. In one dream, my friend and I were playing badminton and every time she hit the shuttlecock, she made duck noises. Then she started hitting me with her racket while chasing me round the sports hall.

Then, in a puff of smoke, she turned into a duck and flew away. What does it mean, WLW?

Highlights of 2002

1 The Remote Part by Idlewild: album of the year
2 The second series of Phoenix Nights and I'm Alan Partridge
3 Printed on Zine for the first time
4 Marrying Avril Lavigne
Maybe the last one was a lie, but it will happen, WLW. Trust me.

Phoenix Nights and I'm Alan Partridge saw the return of comedy genius.

U2 in quite good shocker

U2 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday was the best night of my life. They were simply amazing, even by their staggering live standards. The set list, performance, visuals and atmosphere were all mind-blowing. An electric night, it was even better than their Zoo TV tour. Bilbo

It's all fine for moaning about The Temper Trap's lowly chart position, but what about Wild Beasts' album only reaching No 68? Tragic. Goranoia

I'm Being Stalked

Every time I turn on the TV, go on the internet or even read the listings, the Osbournes are always there. I think they are following me.

WLW, help me. I could take refuge at the Towers.
The "Trachinator"

You could, but we have Girls Aloud staying at the moment.

Was Ledger a potential Drake?

Apparently, Heath Ledger was planning to make a film about Nick Drake before he died. Do Voiders think this would have been a good idea? And, without reving the surreal suggestions for the Manics biopic, what other casting would be a good idea for other rock films? Nova Pilbeam

While I'm strictly a Fender player, the passing of Les Paul has greatly affected me. Learning to play his way was an ambition of mine. Hackney Rob

BB9: over and out

Now that BB9 has been removed from our screens, and there is one less IQ-destroying show out there, I bet you'll all breathe a sigh of relief that it's over. It's not. Unfortunately, now we'll have weeks of "celeb" interviews with the inevitable romances all over the front pages of magazines.

Thanks for that.

Ideas for BB10

Big Brother is over and hopefully it's never coming back again. I think that next year they'll just put a bunch of monkeys in the house and see if they evolve language skills and construct a Large Hadron Collider, or maybe they'll try to take over the world, riding dogs as their beast of war. Love, Betrayal and Revenge.
Princess Psycho

Let's get it right. The Big Brother Black destroys Davy Jones as he rides a dog. Have I missed something?

The comics of pop

My mate Milo and I competed to insert our favourite funny men into pop songs.

He didn't think Pulling (David) Mitchell From A Shell (Squeeze) could be beaten, until I aced him with I Kissed Rich Hall (Katy Perry). Victory.

At least you didn't try Chris Tucker.

Advertising jingle awards

Moo! It's the advert song awards. Here's our favourite at Hector's House: Yum yum it's Country Life/ You can't put a better bit/ Of butter on your knife/ If you haven't any in, have a word with your wife/ And spread it on your toast in the morning.

Some towns don't deserve any gigs

Some towns don't deserve to have bands playing there. After a well-attended show in Bristol- and with their great album Dance Mother getting good reviews- Telepathe played a good gig to just 35 people at Derby Royal last Tuesday. It was only £7. Support live music, you muppets. Anelan

Adam's letter about 7 Worlds Collide's gig summed up what I'll miss about The Void- sharing the moment of a great show we couldn't all get to. Gazzoir

Cactus Conundrum

So I can't help noticing that Oasis are running some adverts starring The Cactus Kid, who runs away with the girl who claims not to need water.

Never mind the plot or the product, I'm more concerned about Catcus Kid's parentage. Would anyone care to explain to me exactly how he was conceived?
Arrant Nerd Boxes Yodeller

With great difficulty, I'd imagine.
