I'm no Oasis fan, but for Ricky Wilson to say Kaiser Chiefs are the natural successor to Oasis is as laughable as if The Bay City Rollers had claimed they were the heirs to The Beatles. Red Dirt Girl

My first gig was Judas Priest in 1981, with Accept supporting. My dad complained all the way home about paying for a seat, only to have to stand up all the way through. It was a great gig, though. Johnny Whitesox

I've been a long time fan of Dario Argento, especially the Demons films, far superior to today's so-called horror! Fast John, Lanarkshire

I agree with you, James (30/ 5). Argento, Fulci, Bava are good adult horror. For superior supernatural films, the Japanese/ Chinese/ Korean are showing the way. American remakes of films like Gingu, Ju-On and Dark Water are too heavily sanitised to appeal to us true fans of the horror genre. Rick Skadorwa

And the winner is... oops, out of space. The WLW Party.

The death of the single is in part due to chart compilers. OCC's decision to make the single as unattractive as possible, such as banning singles with more than three songs, and those old lovely 7" doublepacks. Bring back proper four-song EPs like My Blo*dy Valentine's Glider. Adam Syntax

My first single was Somewhere In My Heart by Aztec Camera, back in 1988. It hasn't aged well, but I still love it anyway. The Doc

The Real Irish Life

In response to Emma-the-li'l'-Angel, I believe Irish life to be very different. I've tried to bump into Bono many a time, but the police got in the way! But we have lots of Jaffa Cakes factories so I invite you all to stay in my treehouse in my hedge. That is if I can get permission off my mum.

Is Paddy the Irishman a real Irish person? Is WLW really a giraffe? Please answer me. Hello, can you hear me?

I'm glad Planet Sound did an obituary on that innovator Bo Diddley. It seemed in his final days he only appeared in the music news sections after his health scares, when he was knocking on heavens door and cheekily running away.

With his death, gone is a brilliant talent and personality fresher than some of the more recently hatched musicians and inevitably influenced. Miss A Vein

Because Dimebag Darrell was murdered in the US, why should that affect gigs in the UK? Security is down to the firm hired by the venue. If they take a heavy-handed approach, all punters suffer. Most gigs done by Doormen St are laid back. Xeroxed

My Turn To Grovel

My sincere apologies to all Ziners whom I have offended with my Simpsons quoting. To protect my innocence and to alleviate my guilt, I redirect the twig of justice to a certain friend of mine (you know who you are), for it was he who told me that particular quotation, attempting to pass it off as his own.

I was a victim who fell in his trap and tried to pass it off as my own. I bow my head in shame.

Career Paths

Emma-the-li'l'-Angel does have strange taste in music, but if she's liking it because she has to because of her chosen career path, then so be it. However, if it's because she wants to and doesn't know why, shame on her! I remember when people worshipped The Manics and Placebo on here.

My first gig was Suede at Liverpool Royal in 1994. Brett Anderson was stunning, but what I remember most was the mad feeling of being pushed forward into the crowd when they began Animal Nitrate. I was only 14, and thought everyone stood politely in one place at gigs. Gemma Williams

Someone recently asked for a blockbuster with several big comedy actors and I've heard about something similar.

Tropic Thunder stars Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr and is scheduled for September release and is looking good. There is a weak plot but it does feature cameos from Tom Cruise and Tobey Maguire! Faris Shoubber, Putney, London

Very Small Beards

i think those very small beards are stupid. They look like little tufts under the lip. Stuart out of Neighbours has one. i saw The Weakest Link the other day and a contestant had one. He didn't win.

i keep winding my friend up by saying that i want to lick a bald man's head, or maybe polish it, or draw pictures on it.

Squashed Strawberry, Hector's House

I had a picnic on one of those beards once. Quite pleasant.

People smell funny and also are not nice to look at. I vote we all convert ourselves into pixels, where we can join together and become a large computer.

We will be immortal until the screen is turned off, although that is just a small price to pay. Also, don't vote for that certain party that lied to us, or something... let's call them 'New Toiling', as it's more funny.

What A Clever Man

If Mozart wrote Twinkle Twinkle Little Star when he was five, he was obviously very clever. But Twinkle Twinkle is the same tune as the Alphabet Song, so Mozart must have created the alphabet.

Boredom

Such an irritating word, isn't it? I must suffer from this at least two days a week. It isn't that I'm lazy, or that I'm boring myself, it's because when I'm in this mood absolutely nothing amuses me.

Trust me, I've tried more or less anything. The best thing to do is sleep until the next day and maybe, just maybe you won't be bored in your sleep.

To see Dylan for the first time was an incredible experience, in great form, promoting his Infidels album. Logic

Apparently, I'm a logical thinker.

However, my logic doesn't seem to come up with the same results as everyone else's, so doesn't that make me illogically illogical? But if that is correct, then it was logical, so I am logical after all. Maybe.

I go to Manchester Academy a lot, and the security levels The Reverend stated there's perceived risk of violence, such as a history of trouble with the band at other venues.

It's rare to go to a rock gig and see the metal detectors out. That said, every rap gig I've been to has not just metal detectors and body searches, but also visible police in the building just in case. Efils God

Hats off to Alan Ross for mentioning The House of Love's Christine as the first single he bought. I've always loved them, and it prompted me to revisit their records.

Suddenly, I'm back to the late '80s summers when I was a student, lazing in sun-soaked fields, sipping cider and reciting Blake and Shelley to a soundtrack of Echo & The Bunnymen, Teenage Fanclub, Lush and Pixies. The power of music, eh? Pink Panther

New Cereal Advert

You know that new certain cereal advert with the woman who has to promote the cereal to the public and is too greedy to hand it out and eats it herself.

Well, if she loves the cereal so much, then if she wanted it to stay on the market she'd give some to the public, cause if no-one bought it, it would go off the shelves as it would be a waste of time for the company, and she'd have no cereal to eat. Think about it, woman!

Squashy Tooth

I can see you've thought long and hard about this, Tooth. Well done.

I can't believe neither of REM's singles from Accelerate even made the Top 40, especially when they've started making an effort on their B-sides again. The charts are rubbish. Both songs are brilliant. Neecy

Despite the praise from Voiders, Roisin Murphy's Overpowered album is bland and derivative, with just two half-decent songs. A far superior electro/ pop album is Random Order by Juliet. Avalon was hands-down Single of 2006. Dr Barratt

What A Day

On this fine bank holiday, I decided to go across the street to get some milk. Unfortunately, I walked straight past it to the bus stop. When I got on the bus, I thought, where am I going again? I got in town and everything was shut so I decided to go to uni.

To cut a long story short, I like the film Vice Versa because Kenickie from Grease is in it (I think?). I was obsessed with him when I was young.

Babushka's Futtocks

This random journey messed with your mind. That film is rer-ubbish.

Bobby Gillespie needs to get over himself, after his unfortunate interview with Lauren Laverne. How arrogant, rude and inarticulate he is. Ella Glasgow

I've just got into Sparks. Their new album is mindblowing. The Futureheads' new album was sublime. Kerrie Zoe

I Really Should Grow Up

Red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and blue. I can sing a rainbow. Sadly, I can no longer watch one. Oh, how I miss Bungle, George, Zippy and what's his face? Geoffrey. Bungle was a bear.

Nowadays I watch balamory. I've got it on video. My favourite characters are Uncle Bob from Bognor, Bouncin' Bobby Boo Boo and Billy-Bob The Snob Who Cannot Get A Job. Or can he?

I noticed Earls's first gig was here in Milton Keynes at Pilz. I was there on Saturday for Capdown's hometown farewell show. They were wicked, and will be missed. Vaga

Neecy is right. The charts are rubbish, so let it go. Not every song in the charts is weak, however. REM are my favourite band, but the main format for Supernatural Superserious had yet another rubbish instrumental to offer. Just enjoy what you enjoy. Gazzoir

Surprises

Well, the Daleks showed up in Doctor Who at last. I was very surprised by their appearance.

Were it not for the episode's title, or the trailers through the previous week, or the newspapers mentioning it, whether or not they woul appear, or the...

They made me yearn for my old-school salt and pepper set. Sniffle.

It's good of Radiohead to suddenly start worrying about the plight of independent record shops. A bit late, though, considering most of them have already closed. Of course, if certain bands hadn't started giving away their albums free online, people might have had a reason to go into these shops to buy something. DJ Gordy

Summer Festival

Woo hoo, summer's here- lots of festivals to go to- Yay!

But all is not well... being in year 13, I have A levels this summer (nooo!) and it means that I have to miss the only festival that I wanted to go to.

The foolish organisers of Download have put it in the middle of my exams. Grrr. I am not a happy wolf.

I was underwhelmed by Foo Fighters at Wembley. It was a great spectacle, but most of it was lost in a wall of sound on the louder songs, though the acoustic stuff was great. I'd give Supergrass's support set top marks, ace as usual. Also, I'm blown away by REM's new album, their best in years. Pat Palloon

I used to like The Ting Tings, but it's the "too much cake" syndrome. Mystery Jets are joining them. Ella Glasgow

Long Shorts

One of the teachers at university always wears long shorts (he also has bushy eyebrows).

i thought they were long shorts, but i am not sure. Are they long shorts, or short longs? Short longs, or long shorts? What do you think, White Line Warrior?

Aphra the Post-modern Spy

Worryingly, I think they are long johns that went saggy in the wash.
