Copy right

Since I was voted "biggest plagiarist" on VR, I guess I should come forward and apologise for being unoriginal. My poem about hamsters was stolen from my husband, who originally stole it from me and I took it from a book. Thank you for your time. *Bows*

The High Priestess of jenovaism

Congratulations. Though I'm sure I've read this letter somewhere before...

Kudos to Earls for the Sarah Cracknell interview. I only got into Saint Etienne about two years through the Finisterre and Turnpike albums, and I can't wait for the Best Of. I really like the new Method of Modern Love single, even if it sounds a lot like The One by Kylie. New Rave Snail

Could someone please reissue Win's Uh Tears Baby? The few CDs go for silly money, and it's the great lost classic pop album. Peter Kerr

Everybody Is Raymond, Day 2

On the second day, the powers that be are flipping the EIR world on its head by adding a second Raymond Benson.
"We've already got a Benson... can we give you a nickname?"
"Sure, call me Paul. It's my real name, anyway."

Vigilante Maelstrom

I thought Scarlet harlots were woeful, but I'm going through a mid-life crisis, as I bought Miley Cyrus and Lavigne albums last week, and enjoy both. I was also moved to tears three times by Alfred Brendel's transcendental piano on BBC2. Kevin Lee

I agree Arcade Fire possibly deserve the band of the decade title, but Muse? I was a massive fan but, after the first two albums, they haven't progressed- just got a bigger fanbase.

The band I feel deserve the title is The Mars Volta. Although their debut album is still their best, each one has shown a massive ambition, with extremely exciting results. Nobody challenges music like them and still has such a big fanbase. Frenger

Six Davord actually died in 2004, but death is still to scared to tell him.

Some people say the same about Zine.

The Second Hand Marching Band's debut EP A Dance To Half Death is one of the best things I've heard in years- a cross between Beirut and The Polyphonic Spree. Which is a good thing in my book. Eels would be my band of the decade, even though E started off yonks ago.

He's also written great songs, and the amount of instruments and sound that the band use is consistently mind-boggling. Negative Creep

Given that The Libertines blew it- leaving a legacy of one truly great album and a whole host of awful imitators- my band of the decade is Biffy Clyro. They're intelligent, intense, highly inventive and the best live band around. I think they're the best trio since Nirvana. The Doc

Lux Interior was a true rock & roller, and one of the best frontmen ever. The Cramps' influence can be heard in everything from My Blo*dy Valentine to modern bands like Glasvegas and The Horrors. Boogie Pirate

Knots

I am seriously contemplating shaving my hair off. Not only do I go to sleep and wake up with dreadlocks, I brush it, get into the shower and it's matted. I spend 20 minutes detangling and half my head is in the brush. But that's small potatoes. Did I ever tell you about the mouse in our kitchen with a mohican? He has it bad, man.

I hope Marilyn manson's new album is a return to form after his disappointing last two efforts. Grotesque and Drink Me had some great singles, but pale in comparison as albums when held up to Antichrist Superstar or Mechanical Animals. Shane Damien

los chupacabra

It's Halloween next week, so I will dress as the grim reaper and follow old people. I see that the chupacabra has been spreading his claws as the santos claws this Christmas chupacabra, bringing dead goats to girls and boys in his weasel sleigh. It was a hostile takeover, with his ninjas making short of the elves. At least this year, I won't get socks; which is a good thing.

There are decent arguments for Radiohead being the best band of the '90s or '00s, depending on which of their eras you prefer. The timing is bad, as their work straddles two decades. But, as lame as it looks on paper, they are surely the band of '95- '07. L Ward

Cucumber, Treason And Plot

Guys are out for pennies... it can only mean one thing: Chavfire Night is upon us. Personally, I don't believe in celebrating some bloke's failure to assassinate. A more effective way to kill would have been to bludgeon him over the head with a cucumber, before eating Exhibit A.

The last time I saw Lux Interior was in 1986, when he was naked on stage, flailing a mic stand repeatedly into the stage as The Cramps serenaded him with a mix of Munsters-cum-punkabilly through a leopard-skin timewarp. And this was in Norwich. Lux will be sorely missed. Captain Zoetrope

All American Rejects are a second-rate pop group who have a large fanbase due to their major label backing. I'm Not Mr Teatime

Sorry to disappoint, WLW, but there must be two poetry-loving, sunset-admiring, effete boys in the world. I'd be "Sir, Dinner Is Served, M'Lord," but not "Mr Teatime". Although Mr Teatime does sound very nice.

It's just like that old saying: "Two poetry-loving, sunset-admiring, effete boys are better than one".

It's difficult to pinpoint a band of the '00s- or a genre. Maybe it's due to the huge accessibility now to a wider, more eclectic selection of music for everyone. Also, the influence of fashion, politics, TV, the charts and press on music is less than in previous decades. Lem fatale

Imagine my delight to learn that the new Oasis single will actually have a proper new song as a B-side and not just some remixes. Andrew O'Neill

It's pretty grim, you know

I have my costume for the Hallowe'en party on Saturday. However, getting a scythe is a bit difficult, as, apparently, it's considered to be an ofensive weapon and the police may have to use a balloon or a stick, instead. I mean, it's not as if I'll be scaring old people again all the time. Well, here's a picture of k'imchi; that should be scary ehough.

Princess psycho

That k'imchi sounds like an offensive weapon, too.

I had a brilliant time at two gigs on Keane's arena tour, but I'm sick of reading reviews by journalists who didn't enjoy them. That's fair enough, but why comment on stuff like "the predominantly middle-aged crowd" (they weren't) and a "chubby" Tom Chaplin (he isn't). Janet Chaplin

Biffy Clyro are dangerously close to Nickelback- dull, dull, dull, with fake US accents. Their first billion albums were ignored for a reason. Adam Syntax

Pity not needed

I pity the poor, starving orphans of Africa. I mean, I keep thinking the empty roll of Scotch Tape beside me is a piece of cucumber and trying to munch on it... and it's only since breakfast that I haven't eaten. Not that you can call bran flakes a nutritious meal, I'd personally prefer cardboard. But I can't digest cardboard, alas. But not a ruminant.

They don't want your pity; they want our aging pop stars to adopt them.

White line worrier

I have a confession to make, WLW. Years ago, I read the Zine for ages, before it dawned on me, that you replied below the white line. All those pearls of wisdom wasted on me. You should have come with instructions. All the newbies will not know not of what I speak, ha ha!

The Barking Tree

You wouldn't be the first to be left clueless after reading the Zine.
