Here's My Addition To Poetry Corner

There once was a boy called Kydd
Who ate 20 pies for a quid
When asked "Are you faint?"
He replied, "No, I ain't".
"But I don't feel as well as I did".

Thank you, thank you. No, you're too kind, thank you.

More Issues of Capitalisation

I just had to run up here and tell you, WLW, that you are the most fantastic person who has ever lived.

What am I talking about? You got all the capitalisation of my name perfect! Just goes to show a little bit of pleading and a few carefully worded threats goes a long way. Picture of a moose by any chance?

What on earth is going on with Captain Birdseye? He suddenly became really young and then aged really rapidly again. It makes you wonder what exactly goes into those fish fingers.

The opening singles from U2's last three albums all went to No 1. What happened with Get On Your Boots? It may not be classic U2, but it's a sign of the increasing absurdity of the chart that it didn't go Top 10.

Finally- U2's new album is their first great one since Achtung Baby, and about time too. I just can't understand those who say Line On The Horizon is boring, yet they're the same people who like Radiohead. Matt Dawson

The battle seemed lost. Suddenly, Cecil appeared. Armed only with his waspish wit, he confronted the enemy.

I suppose the relative failure of U2's new single could be down to the increasing absurdity of the charts. Then again, it could be down to the increasing absurdity of U2. Also, I hope that Muse- a decent enough band- aren't going down the Elvis Costello route into pretension. Simon Ellis

As funny as U2's failure to make the Top 10 is, Dionne's right that it shows how mad the charts have become.

There are hardly ever any new entries these days, and those that are, either land in the Top Three or scrape into the Top 40. How are new bands meant to make any headway any more? I don't know what the solution is, but I'd love to see if Voiders have any suggestions as to how to stop songs like The Dance being in the chart for months. Goranoia

The new U2 single is rubbish. Not even "rubbish for a return single, compared to the brilliant Vertigo", just rubbish. Bono's lyrics are now tedious and, from the six songs I've heard of their "greatest ever" new album, Earls was generous in giving it 5/10.

How can a band responsible for songs as good as One, Streets Have No Name and With Or Without You come up with such nonsense? Bono has just become too smug for his own good. DJ Dave

elvis v The Beatles

I've been a Zine reader for a year now but I've always kept quiet. Today I have decided to speak up.

Obviously The Beatles would kick elvis's butt. They decided to leave us with a bit of dignity whereas elvis overdosed on hamburgers. Classy? I think not!
Kitty Strange

You don't have to be classy to make good music.

The Woodentops

I've heard that the classic kids' TV show, The Woodentops, is being made into a big budget movie starring Keanu Reeves, Josh Hartnett and Orlando Bloom.

Watch out for splinters.
What's Up, Doc?

The first two you can have but Bloom was great in the Caribbean.

Labour Camp H*ll

Whoever wrote in about their school's ridiculousrules, well, I agree completely. Our school also agrees with the labour camp approach and our parents insist on making us go!

And what's with my head of year? He must spend half of his life stamping his feet, screaming and shouting in my face. His office is like my second home, I could find my way there with my eyes shut!
The All-Knowing Lavatory Brush

School- hasn't changed much since my day, clearly.

Yo!

I read someone's message about a Blondie gig and was both shocked and appalled to learn that before the concert he thought they only had one song. Disgraceful!

Blondie STARTED punk, which is what most Ziners listen to! Take the time to learn about the history of your beloved music. That is all.
The Funungrappod

If most listen to punk then surely they'd already know that!

Names, names, names

How do other Ziners come up with theirs? God knows where I got it, but I like it. For example, Blonde Butterfly, are you really a blonde butterfly or is it just wishful thinking? And Topper, are you a chopping chap?

Some names are self-explanatory, though, Emma-The-Li'l'-Angel- you're obviously a darling! I'll look after Matt while you're busy with Charlie!
The Last Leaf On The Tree

James can come round here and play with Marcel.

An Ode To Gherkins

Gherkins are definitely my favourite food
They cheer me up when I'm in a mood
I give them all names like Bob, Fred and Jude
And in return they all say "Hey, dude"!
The Pickled Gherkin of Doom

Talking gherkins. New McDonald's offer?

My Daily Schedule When I'm Bored

Rotate the carpet, hoover the lawn, play Solitaire for cash, name all my zits, flirt with a tree, pop all my zits, memorise the dictionary, start a band, make a list of my favourite fungi, speak in acronyms, bounce a potato, knight myself, write a short story with alphabet soup, drop a cat from a high place and see if it lands on four feet.
The Wonky Gnome

Too much spot action for my liking; makes a mess of the screen.

Rusturedd The Squirrel Warrior The Brigadier invited me round to his for a tipple of port. I asked if he had lager and he pulled a musket on me!

He's funny like that.

Spandex Badger Having a tattoo of Bob Monkhouse's head does not make my obsession unhealthy, all right?

Oh, but it soooo does!

Delusional Banana A day without sunshine is like... well, right. I'm a deep thinker, huh?

Deep, no... odd?

My Trip To London

I recently travelled from Liverpool (my hometown) to London. Here are some of my hghlights:

Taking 6 hours to get there in 30 degree heat.

Breaking the lights in the hotel by playing ultimate fighting.

Playing Dead Kennedys albums at full blast out the window.
HeWhoCannotBeNamed

Funny, I recently went from London to Liverpool. No highlights.

Ziners

I thought I'd add something to Poetry Corner, so here's one I made earlier!

The cat sat on the mat
The dog lay on the rug
Snug as a bug
Along came a mouse
And knocked down the house.

Now is that a masterpiece or what? Worthy of a round of applause methinks.

Worthy of something all right- applause wasn't what I had in mind.
