Save the world with veg

The UN has said that our diets should exclude meat once a week to reduce farmyard methane emissions. So I'll just eat sprouts then, you think that'll work?

You're exempt, WLW, being a tree-munching veggie. I blame the elephants.

Black hole blues

I was under the impression that Large Hadron Collider's Purpose was to explore the validity and limitations of the Standard Motel, that mini black holes evaporate into Hawking radiation due to quantum effects. I never did trust the keyboard player of D:ream. Love, betrayal and catchy songs.

Well, collide my hadrons. If YOU, Princess, don't know Hawking radiation is unproven, what hope the rest of us?

Stop pigeon-holing metal as racist

Why is it that the only movies to feature harcore metal on their soundtracks are ones about neo-Nazis? Smokin' Aces, American History X and Higher Learning all fall into this trap.

It gives the impression that the extreme metal genre is full of far-right bands like Screwdriver. People outside the scene should remember it has anti-fascist bands too, like SOAD, Soulfly and Napalm Death. Rich Barrett

No rhyme nor reason

I don't want to be the weirdo atuniversity/ Being the weirdo back home is weird enough for me. I must hide away my weird, and to this I must vow/ As I don't want to be estranged/ I'm strange enough now. Being a weirdo is no use/ It'd only make life worse/ Maybe a good start would be to cease speaking in versze.

Not just any sandwich

For lunch I decided to grab a sandwich, literally. So I got out the moped, fixed it up and whizzed up and down the high street snatching snacks from the hands of hungry office workers on their lunch hours. As a result the obesity levels in the local area have been reduced by 25%. I, on the other hand, am 20 stone and I've crushed my moped. Anyone for a cheese and pickle?

Quilt guilt

Person A: "Don't wait up."
Person B- Goes to bed and does an alligator death roll inside the quilt.

However, Person A thinks they've taken more than their fair share and ends up giving it back.

Crying over Arctics

Arctic Monkeys' debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was amazing. Favourite Worst Nightmares was OK. But the new album Humbug just doesn't excite me.

They know it too, hence the gimmick of releasing new single Crying Lightning via Oxfam. You expect that from Coldplay, but Arctics never struck me as charity types. It just doesn't sound new- the guitar is like Teddy Picker or The Rascals. Lincoln Donnelly

Sharpe's magnetic attraction

Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros' album Up From Below that Earls loved is a serious album of the year contender. Magucal stuff. Ollie Holtam

I've bought tickets for A-ha's gig at London 02 in November, as I thought their last album Analogue was brilliant- not a bad song in sight, with poetic, relaxing songs like Cosy Prisons. Morten Harket has one of the best pop voices ever, while Coldplay and Keane cite them as influences. Andy Young

My friend in question is small and elf-like, with a fine head of ginger, ahem, strawberry blonde, locks and rather fetching spectacles. There, a match made in heaven! All I ask in return for my pains is, ooh, let's just say one of them p*ts of gold would suffice.

Charts just keep getting worse

Surely the Top 40 is in the worst state it's ever been, despite the available music being in a very healthy state. If a single as good as The Cribs' Cheat On Me doesn't make the Top 40, God help us. Loads of great singles miss out on the Top 40 completely now, in favour of terrible chav nonsense. Yes, it does matter. Adam Syntax

Wild Beasts and The Temper Trap's lowly placings make me worry the album chart is getting as bad as the Top 40. TaDa

Holes from a hole

For every possible outcome, a new parallel discussion is created. In a small fraction of these, the Large Hadron Collider produced a black hole. In a small fraction of these, it was not lethal but perfectly controlled. In most of these, it was not lethal but perfectly controlled. In most of these, they've used this dimensional gateway as a waste disposal unit. There are a lot more street louts around lately, but be nice to them: they've travelled interdimensionally!

Palindromes

A palindrome is a word that is spelt the same backwards as well as forwards. For example:

Racecar.
Reviver.

But the most creative and by far the longest palindrome ever is, of course, WLW! Now, that deserves a round of applause.
The Cereal Killer

I'm still clapping as we speak.

Townie Tim: Episode 4

Nurse: The operation was a success.
Marty: Thank you so much!
Nurse: But how did his brain manage to explode like that!
Marty: I'm afraid I said something that made him think. He's a townie, you see.
Nurse: Ahhh, well that explains it. He'll have to wear that bandage on his head for a week.

Black Wednesday

Mwnci Tai Not even Jeremy Kyle on mute could make Wednesday's Zine any good, and that's normally enough to make Princess Psycho's guff entertaining.

Never fear. Henry Paulson's working on a Zine bail out as we speak.

Mondo Don't you have some classic unpublished texts you could use on the days we're all out getting drunk together?

I wouldn't say "classic" as such. More "sub prime".

Received with thanks

I always wanted to be part of a "worst Zine ever". I'd like to thank my agent and his husband, my sister and her husband, and J**** C****, just because.
BlackDove

Well done. It's funny, I always thought Mondo would have been involved.

Stupid simile

"Wandered lonely as a cloud"? Surely the worst simile in our literature? Clouds, especially in the Lake District, seem to have plenty of company.
Friend of The 18th Century

Spurred into action

After that shambolic Zine, I thought I'd better write something intellectual. Problem is I've been wasting my intellect finding anagrams on the net. Did you know for instance that an anagram of Large Hadron Collider is "Hello! A cladding error"? Or that London Olympics is "Oncoming media play"? Bonus points for anyone who can discover more topical wordplay hilarity.

Q&A with WLW

I'm a busy man these days, but I heard your unfortunate plea for better banter on the Zine. So here are two questions for you to answeer. Firstly, being a giraffe and thus lacking the dexterity of opposable thumbs, do you use a specially designed keyboard, or do you have a secret secretary you've never told us about? And secondly, are you fighting FOR or AGAINST White Lines?
Fighting Torque

Normal keyboard.
Against.
