The hours of rest

It's difficult to work out which hour of the day I should use in which to rest. Being one to whom the concept of somnia as perceived by normal people is alien. I worry about it. However, as I get paid for watching (er, yeah, and reporting stroke researching) telly, it seems appropriate to choose 2 to 3 in the afternoon, while the pub is quiet. I need a real job (hint).

In response to WLW's comment, how does a newbie smell in the morning? I imagine, much like burnt toast and weak tea. What does WLW stand for and where is fluffy the evil one?

Fireworks Farce

I'm glad all that fireworks nonsense is finished again. Honestly, humans will look at anything if it's bright and makes a loud noise - never mind thazt it's your council tax being set fire to in those municipal displays.

At least now our local government can get back to spending its money properly: on Christmas lights and pseudo-celebrities to turn them on. Hurrah!

The 400-year-old clam recently discovered off the coast of Finland has died. After appearing on gordon ramsay's the f word, the clam was accidentally eaten by an overzealous customer, Ms Fatima Gloop. Ms Fatima said of the incident, "Mmmm... mmm... mmm... tasty... mmm".

mr ramsay was unavailable for comment, but is said to be "bleeping angry".

Hull has a cinema. It may surprise some of you that Hull, indeed, has anything at all. A female acquaintance and I were there for the grand opening and first film. Business is booming. It also has a new bus station. The problem is that they have forgotten to put up any bus timetables. I'm confident of retaining our place as Britain's Worst Town.

Kids' Shows

Years ago, Postman Pat and Fireman Sam influenced children to take up these professions. Recently, both have been on strike. With recent television shows, it's likely that in 15 years we'll get builders and explorers doing the same things. A small price to pay, you may think, but I guess you don't remember the Flowerpot siege. I asked some veterans, but they said "Weed rather forget that".

GM things are really cool. Scientists could mix genes together to make vegetables that taste like fudge and marshmallows. It would be so yummy, and also really helpful for scarily fat and unhealthy people. Also, they could make turkeys taste like cabbages.

Everyone would not have to kill so many every Christmas because they are really yucky. Yay!

A Squirrel Called Mark

I take exception to The Barking Tree's comment regarding a squirrel named Mark. I see Mark socially and know he's going through a messy divorce which he isn't handling well. I told him not to take it in the first place and can inform you he is genuinely ashamed of his actions. He is, in fact, very red-faced over the matter, no small fact considering he's a grey squirrel.

There is nothing more embarrassing than walking up to a bar where you consider yourself a regular and being asked for identification. Did she have to shout so loud? Cue the hideous college photo which managed to work its way onto my driving licence! How did that get on there? With sweat running down my face, I trundled away with my liquid.
It's a good job they serve "extra cold" pints these days.
