Is Eddie Murphy a good actor?

Eddie Murphy's best films are the early ones- 48 Hours, Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop are among my favourites. His worst film I think is Best Defense. Baz, Sunderland

Oh no, not another Eddie Murphy film. The man has never done a good one. Don't talk to me about Beverly Hills Cop or Trading Places- total rubbish. Eddie Murphy is a waste of space. Dominic, Castlewellan

A poem for this evening

Its walk was the shuffle of something dead:
the flesh putrid, no eyes in its head.
"Who are you," I asked, "on this bleak Hallowe'en?"
"Can't you tell? I'm the ghost of the OLD Zine."
* Cue thunderflash *

Crying over new Arctics

Arctic Monkeys' debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was amazing, Favourite Worst Nightmares was OK. But the new album Humbug just doesn't excite me.

They know it too, hence the gimmick of releasing new single Crying Lightning via Oxfam. You expect that from Coldplay, but Arctics never struck me as charity types. It just doesn't sound new- the guitar is like Teddy Picker or The Rascals. Lincoln Donnelly

Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros' album Up From Below that Earls loved is a serious album of the year contender. Magical stuff. Ollie Holtam

I've bought tickets for A-ha's gig at London 02 in November, as I thought their last album Analogue was brilliant- not a bad song in sight, with poetic, relaxing songs like Cosy Prisons. Morten Harket has one of the best pop voices ever, while Coldplay and Keane cite them as influences. Andy Young

Charts just keep getting worse

Surely the Top 40 is in the worst state it's ever been, despite the available music being in a very healthy state. If a single as good as The Cribs' Cheat On Me doesn't make the Top 40, God help us. Loads of great singles miss out on the Top 40 completely now, in favour of terrible chav nonsense. Yes, it does matter. Adam Syntax

Wild Beasts and The Temper Trap's lowly placings make me worry the album chart is getting as bad as the Top 40. TaDa

Tarantino is the greatest. Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and both Kill Bills are classics. Death Proof is OK, but still better than 95% of the movies out that year. Paul, Darlington

All of the Val Lewton-produced chillers are worth watching. The most underrated is the borderline film noir The Leopard Man. My favourite is The Seventh Victim, with its wonderfully grim final scene. Kit, Acton

Penny for the minister?
Junior Minister

In my day we had to feed pennies into a coin-operated oven to keep warm.

Blast from the past

Wow; so, turns out messages I send are automatically saved in my account, which means I get to re-read some spaced out messages of mine that never got printed. Amazing. They don't even sound like me.
Anyways, I must dash. I saw liam gallagher today. It was all right.
Satan's Little Helper

Why not re-send them and try again? Standards are much lower these days.

Wise words?

A student awoke from a dream, in tears.

This troubled his master, so he asked "What is wrong, was it a nightmare?". "No," responded the student. "Was it a sad dream?" asked the master. "No," the student said. Then the student looked over at the master and said, "The dream was so beautiful, I know it can never come true."

Gizza job

With my perfekt gramma and punctuation, I would be the ideal guest head hitter for Chrissy. Being a Natheist and major drunk has to be a plus. Oh, and my fondness for certain ruminant mammals. Woja fink, Guv? Let the debbles take the hindmost. Whatever that means.

You're way overqualified, mondo.

Femme I'm interested! I could edit the Zine into next year! But I guess fluffy or debbles will do it. Sigh.

Maybe... If fluffy hadn't gone AWOL.

Gothic Fairy debbles, that's so cute. Makes me think of a little girl with pink in her hair. Like ruby Gloom. Congrats on passing your exams.

It makes me think of Neighbours circa 1989, and frizzy perms for some reason.

The Barking Tree Does anyone know how to reset the furry one to GMT? Her remains firmly on BST. Do you have this problem with Mavis, WLW? Animals huh!

There's a button at the back, I think.

The Banana Flavoured Lemon Oh my, WLW! I'll be a guest editor! I'd be great! I'll be nice-ish to everyone, and I won't be insulting to people! Remember, I love you more than everyone else!

Flattery gets you nowhere. Bribes, however, do nicely.

Cold?

So you used to put coins in the oven to try and keep warm, WLW? That's nothing. When I was younger my family were so poor we had to rub two ice cubes together to keep warm in the winter. My mate Chilly Willy had a similar experience too, until he got frostbite, but that's a whole different story.

GMT

The Barking Tree Thanks for the advice, WLW. The button is under his tail and I don't want to touch it. Eeww. Any other ideas?

Try putting him on pause for an hour.

Donny's Angel I am saddened by the news of Father Osmond passing away. He will be missed.

It's a wrap

Wrapping up Christmas presents is pointless. I've spent two hours so far and it will take seconds to undo my hard work.

There's no need to wrap them, Windy. Just send 'em in.

Itch Tabard There was a debate about not seeing baby pigeons, how come we don't see baby seagulls (spit, I hate them). Weird, eh?

The babies are in their nests now. How many of those do you see every day?
