Stuck on repeat

I once saw a woman made of glue, thought it was strange but we soon got attached. I also met a retired scarecrow and he said he is going to spread his cuts.

For Joni Mitchell albums, she's picked her own compilations, too. Dreamland and Songs of A Prairie Girl. But the best is Travelogue, re-recordings of old songs with an orchestra. Sandy Cowan

I wonder if an album as adventurous as Hejira would be released today. In an era of pick'n'mix downloads, where would bands like The Go-Betweens, Talk Talk and Prefab Sprout be? I'm thankful that at least The Blue Nile and The Roots still exist. Pierre Robert

Pumpkin fever, part 1

Day 4 trapped inside my pumpkin. The smell is starting to send me ever so slightly mad. The world has become a vast ocean of orange and old wax from that candle I left in ait at Hallowe'en. mother stopped delivering food through my small window, once representing the left eye of Pumpkin Lumpkin, around three or four days ago. Or was that three or four hours ago? Pumpkin fever is making it hard to determine time.

What albums are Voiders looking forward to? Mine are Keane, Panic At The Disco and hopefully a new album from the reformed Finch. Anything new from 30 Seconds To Mars would round 2008 off. Jules Kirby

I'd like to extol The Futureheads' virtues. I've seen them three times on their current tour, maginificent ecah time. The new material sounds brilliant and, when it appears, could make up the album of the year. Kriiike

Weird bands on TV shows? I keep hearing songs by Little Spitfire on a US teen drama, Falcon Beach. They're great. They deserve the exposure. Rockin' Rob

Any Joni Mitchell album between 1970- 75 is a worthy acquisition. The quality of her output during that period is second only to van morrison's in the singer-songwriter stakes. Court & Spark in particular is a seamless, silken garment. Also, I recommend Townes Van Zandt. Oversomecognac

Me, the black widow? The only thing that is taxing my mind just now is why I watched Bonkickers.

How can a show based on Time Team be so bad? But, most perplexingly, what is a bonekicker? Oh, and Kirby, the answer is no.

Margarine was invented in 1903 and a quarter past by Dr Adolf Margarine and his wife Flora. This came about when the corner shop ran out of butter. His wife's name lives on to this day, whilst Adolf joined the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Mad Cows. Makes you think, doesn't it?

Best intro? It has to be the soothing acoustics on Battery by Metallica. It's not only a great start to a song, but an amazing start to an album, in this case, Master of Puppets. Flyin Frog

Court & Spark is Joni Mitchell's most "pop" album, although in Joniworld this means heavier jazz influences. That would lead to Summer Lawns. For The Roses is overlooked, but brilliant. Her first eight albums are all essential.

i can't understand why WLW could compare mondo ray to Madonna and Cher. Madonna and Cher are a couple of washed-out has-beens who have never had any talent or class.

I thought Earls was harsh on Lenny Kravitz, saying that he had produced no redeeming songs throughout his career.

His first album is an 8/10, for Mr Cab Driver and Let Love Rule. His next two were more than passable, plus he wrote Justify My Love for Madonna and made an unlikely success of Vanessa Paradis's album. I would agree, though, that Kravitz has done nothing of worth since 1993. dj gordy

Earls: If we're lucky, we get promos in two months before an album is out and any 10/10 album needs to live with you for a year at least before being as perfect as it can be. A gig is instant.

I thought michael eavis said that, in 2008, Glastonbury would be for younger people. Now that he's booked Neil Diamond, it turns out it's for nobody. My favourite intro is A Hard Day's Night. The fcat we don't know what that chord is what makes it more appealging. Chris Sturgeon

I love Japan, but they were hardly considered mainstream pop even in the '80s. They troubled the charts, but so did Iron Maiden. Helen Oram

New Sports

- Triple long jump.
- Crazy Football- All the goals are tiny windmills and also all the players have to dribble past random pyramids and spooky clowns.
- 5-a-side-boxing.
- Master of The Hunt hunting- Little foxes ride Alsatians and chase fat and arrogant and red-faced men through all the forests. It is ok because it is a Tradition.
- Synchronised swimming (oh my goodness- it is a really silly crazy idea! Oh, wait...).

If Earls's review of Lenny Kravitz's album were a film, it'd be terminator 2. It wasn't so much harsh criticism as the equivalent of letting rip with a machine gun. I've never been a fan, but it sounded like Earls wanted the man to be dropped in the middle of Baghdad. Disco Stu

Thanks to Earls for his recommendation of The National's The Boxer in the Top 50 lists. Bliss. Enough said. Scott Chadwick

Newbs Out On Page Three

Samurai Sam I'm new (let the newbie jibes begin). Let me do the standard name drop and joke. So, mondo ray is super gay. I bet this will go on page one (the joke).

Even the newbies are jaded these days.

Fightingtorque I challenge you to come up with a witty riposte to the following phrase: "...!".

As any of our resident pedants will tell you, that's not a phrase...

Namealikes? My son, Ben gibbard, shares his name with Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service's singer. By coincidence, they're the favourite bands of daughter Kylie. She's 27, not named after Minogue. Roger Gibbard

I worked alongside Robbie Williams in the civil service for four years and my local college had a Graham Coxon as a lecturer. I wonder what a Nottingham venue makes of Blackpool confectionery store Rock City? Sleepy Sealion

Freaks

"The majority of freaks are endowed with normal athoughts and emotions". I applaud Princess for referencing a true classic movie.

Tod Browning's "Freaks" was banned for 32 years in his country. You wanna see how most 'Ziners think (and possibly look)? Watch it. By the way, "offend one and you offend them all".

mondo

Oh I don't know, there's one or two 'Ziners you haven't offended yet, mondo.

The Fall have released 25 "proper" albums. The Domesday Pay-Off Triad comprises the singles Mr Pharmacist and Hey! Luciani, plus the Bend Sinister album. Zachary Gallagher

Thanks to all the Voiders for your advice on Joni Mitchell albums. I'm going to hit my credit card on Saturday, and spend Sunday listening to them. As for the letter about Torchwood: Cardiff isn't a town. It's a city, and proud of it. Simon The Big Gay

Herpes

I have herpes and it's not through politics, or off a celebrity. It's not s*xually related, honest.
Apparently, it's called Herpes Simple Virus (HSV).
I hate cold sores.
Fancy a kiss, WLW?

I'm a Leona Lewis fan, but I'm not surprised to see her next single is in aid of Sport Relief. Spirit is a poor album, and simon cowell should be ashamed of the way he's handled Leona's career since X Factor. Tom Whitehead

NASA are beaming Across The Universe into space to mark the 40th anniversary of its recording? I could be wrong, but doesn't the Let It Be film say the song was recorded on February 4 1969, rather than 1968? Robert Willmott

How to use your newbie

mondo was absolutely right in the fact that I used a libe from Tod Browning's film, Freaks. We should have an initiation rite for newbies, something that will prove their worth. Either that or sometimes insanely dangerous. I'll just get the flesh eating demon squid out.

Princess psycho (on an old Pentium II as her laptop went wrong. God, it's slow)

Forced with the scorn of you lot or the squid, I know what I'd choose.

In response to the Voider asking about new albums, Glasvegas will be all hyoe and no substance, whenever it's released. But the one from Johnny Flynn And The Suss*x Wit will be phenomenal, if their show is judge. Sean O'Neill

After 31 years, The S*x Pistols' album still sells well. No band has released a better album since. Sid Vicious, RIP. K Card
