Grammar Lesson

I was reading Backckat the other day over my porridge when I noticed an amusing letter. A misguided young ignoramus was inquiring whether the past participle of bring was brang, brung or bringed.

If my knowledge of the English was as lacking as that, I would have sh*oted myself a long time ago.

Zine Illusionist

With all those so-called illusionists around these days, such as David Blaine in his own little box (and own little world), Zine should have its own illusionist, to keep up the trend.

My idea: maybe Spiky Stuy should disappear up his own backside?

Oh wait, he already has.

I wish Edwyn Collins the best of luck for his upcoming Glastonbury appearances. It's been a devastating couple of years, and the man deserves a triumphant return. Live, Awesome Color are brilliant, as are both their albums. They showed how good they are in concert at Leeds Faversham on Saturday. The support bands were superb too.

TheOld Romantic Killer Band made The Black Keys look like Level 42, while Pulled Apart By Horses made Ministry resemble Rick Wakeman. Let the sheep have Albert Steptoe Lydon, Iggy Pop becoming Cleopatra and Coldplay's rehashed Pink Floyd soufflé. Zeppody

I see Keane are as popular as ever among Voiders. "Middle-aged housewives" like them? I'm not one of those, so Tony Vegas shouldn't generalise. Nor am I stuck on one genre. My MP3 includes Metallica, Georgia Satellites, Johnny Pearson and Depeche Mode. Keane, however, are more than a bit special.

I'm impatiently awaiting Keane's third album, out this autumn, and I won't be buying it from Tesco. Dawn Walsh

Why must Earls look so foolish? 5/10 for Sigur Ros? Is it because it slows after the first few songs? Did you only play it once? Do you just want to stand out from all the other fantastic reviews it's received?

I'll add this to the list of shame with Sufjan Stevens and Fleet Foxes that you got so very, very wrong. If Voiders have memories of foolish reviews by Earls, let's make this a new topic. Ida Funkhouser

To answer Craig's query about Josh Homme's Desert Sessions, rumours were large that Volume 11 & 12 were recorded alongside the latest Masters of Reality album at Rancho De La Luna in January. As that's now five months ago, I'm not so sure.

I can;t get enough of Coldplay's new album. The only criticism is that too many of the songs sound like three tracks in ine, which is confusing on early listens. Now I've finally worked out which is which, I think the title track is awesome. After the dire X&Y, they're back on form and deserve to rule the world.

I also can't stand The Ting Tings, one of the worst bands to strike it lucky in a while. DJ Dave

Constantly mishear everyone.
Random push someone else's personal items over.

While I disagree with the methods of the Chicken Out campaign, it's unfair to say Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Keane didn't dig into their own pockets themselves. Both did. Chinese Dining Experience

Ever been to a Chinese buffet thing just after Chinese New Year? I've never felt so rushed. Thousands of people, all there to eat, eat, eat!

It was a case of come in, sit down, get food, eat food, pay money, get out, next, please! No time to be picky, I just ate what I could get at, mainly rice and lettuce. I think I'll just get a picture delivered next time.

Coldplay are now light years ahead of the pack. Viva La Vida is brilliant, and the title track is the best song they've ever done. Everything else is sounding ordinary or, in the case of The Ting Tings and Mint Royale, rotten. How did those two get to No 1? Andy McGarvey

What has Nelson Mandela done to deserve a 90th birthday concert hosted by Fearne Cotton and Phillip Schofield? Hasn't he suffered enough? Tony DeStroi

The new roof at Wimbledon sadly means there'll be no repeat of the legendary time Cliff Richard entertained the rain-soaked fans with that incendiary version of Skunk Anansie's Yes It's F****** Political. Vince McRaincoat

Alanis Morissette's new album Flavors of Entanglement is her best this decade. She's an anomaly, as she's beautiful, intelligent and a talented musician. Anyone who missed her recent tour should kick themselves. Rich A

I'm with the Voider who said '90s dance tracks should stop getting reissued. I used to go to raves until the early '90s, and the songs mentioned were dismal back then. Utah Saints I can put up with, but Snap? You're having a laugh. Kara Walmsley

The single for Primal Scream's single makes me cry. It's pop meets The Forbidden with bobby Gillespie as a serial killer in black, killing models and hiding behind doors. Jade Webster

Have any other Voiders found the beauty of shoegaze-influenced metal? Just imagine Burzum mixed in with Slowdive, or My Bl*ody Valentine laced with Neurosis. The first band you should look out for is Alcest. Zyniker

I've recently been revisiting my old Monster Magnet albums. Today it was Tab 25. I can't make up my mind if the title track is a work of stoned genius, or an overlong song that needs trimming by at least 10 minutes. Efils God

Whatever happened to Danielle Dax? Her 1991 album Blast The Human Flower was classic pop, but I've not heard anything since. Do Voiders have other acts in their own "Whatever happened to?" files? Eddie Clarke

The new Weezer album Red has got some stonking tunes on it, but the rest is a little flat. I don't think they've done anything that comes close to Blue, which is a crying shame as I loved that once upon a time. The Doc

I'll hold my hands up when I've boobed. In my confusion, I turned into one of those people who write in to complain that someone doesn't feel the same as me. I'm still baffled by Earls's 5/10 review of Sigur Ros but, listening again to that beautiful album, it's soothed away my madness. earls, you're still my go-to guy for reviews. Ida F

If The Ting Tings are the best new band in Britain, US music may as well call Fisher &V Sons now. Tyler Durden

Surely The Fratellis' new album should be getting more hype? It's as good as Costello Music, and it looks like they'll join three acts in having two albums in my all-time Top 10.

They haven't released the best songs as singles yet, but My Friend John, A Heady Tale, Tell Me A Lie and the beautifully mental Milk And Money are contenders for song of the year. The Fratellis are light years ahead of Arctic Monkeys. Ralph Wiggum

Radiohead's Victoria Park gig was ruined for me on Tuesday by long strings of people wandering back and forth around me for every single minute of the show. Then, when Radiohead played The Tourist, people started yakking through that. Please stay at home next time. Habanero

Life

I don't think some of us appreciate how lucky we are to be alive. Millions of extraordinary events gave us life, yet some people treat life like it's a curse.

Here's my advice. Look at the clouds in the sky, hear the wind rustling in the trees, feel the Earth beneath your feet and smile (or else the bunny gets it).
Hippy Zaganza

Gnomework

I've decided to wrote to you, WLW, after trying to do an assignment for three hours now. How many people actually care if I write about an advert or not? Maybe the head gnome, but he's had it in for me for a while. Also, everyone should boycott Scissor Sisters' version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

Have you done your homework, WLW? Of course you ahve.

Grimble Gromble

I've been listening to Scissor Sisters. Studying them hard.

Evil, Nasty WLW

Why oh why must you constantly rubbish The Darkness, when there are so many bands out there worthier of your criticism?

By this I mean Busted, the awful Busted and the hideous Busted. Get a grip!

Triangular Frostbite

At least they have nice eyebrows. Well, funny eyebrows.
