Mancomb Seepgood - Grog me.

Grog me.

One Day Like This by Elbow.  An absolute perfect 10 that one.  Still not sick of it no matter how many football highlights programmes it's been on.

That Oberst one is magical too, as well as Time to Pretend by MGMT, The Hope Will Kill Us by The Dawn Chorus, The Modern Leper by Frightened Rabbit, Black and Gold by Sam Sparro, Slow Parade by Broken Records, Skinny Love by Bon Iver and any of The Maybes fine work.

Time To Pretend isn't even MGMT's best song, Kids, however, is definitely on my shortlist.

Also, Salt, Pepa and Spindarella by Johnny Foreigner,The Age Of The Understatement by The Last Shadow Puppets, L.E.S. Artistes by Santogold, and Unfinished Business by White Lies. Screw it, I'm a hype machine, Daddy's Gone by Glasvegas, even though it was technically last year. And for pure cheesy pop funness, Alphabeat - Fascination

Oh yeah, I forgot R.E.M.'s phenomenal album. It's either Man-Sized Wreath or Sing For The Submarine that's the best from that.
There's quite a few albums I've loved (The Faint, The Music, Supergrass) but I can't think of their best tracks yet. Maybe they work better as albums.

Not sure about specific songs but Skin Deep by Buddy Guy has to be up there in the album of the year category. A legend of the old Chigago Blues Scene. F*cking quality stuff.

Fascination by Alphabeat, for its catchiness, and cos it always puts me in a good mood.

Is the word 'brilliant' by any chance?
Mal: Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?
Zoë: Big damn heroes, sir.

Forgot to mention Where Do You Run To by Vivian Girls. A great pop tune from an album full of great pop tunes, it sounds something like a female Jesus and Mary Chain covering The Ronettes. Glasvegas would sound a bit like this if they were any good, basically.

A weak Girls Aloud song, by all accounts.

This would be worthy of inclusion, though.

The more I listen to it, the more I realise just how special Trick of the Light by The Maybes? is. The ballad Lee Mavers never could quite get the grasp of.

That one from Misteeq is quite good.

Peter Robinson in NME last week - "Nothing says 'Im a serious artist' quite like Mambo No 5 with lyrics about housework".

Annoyingly it's stuck in my head and I can't get rid of it.

Just realised old Paper Planes was released in the UK in 2008. Suddenly Elbow have some competition.

Also, Human by The Killers was fanastic in my probably polluted ears. And Ruby Turner as well

I thought there first album was a belter, only maybe 2 bad songs (Everything will be alright, Believe me Natalie). Then it was all downhill from there. I hated Sams Town apart from the first 3 tracks and have no real interest in the new album. Might give it a listen over the holidays.

Also, that definitive list, I HATE Black and Gold by Sam Sparro. Oh how I loathe that song.

I agree that Spaceman is the better song, but that wasn't a single this year It's the next one though, I believe.

Good list Tom, although Alesha Dixon's songs would be improved if she just danced around naked and didn't sing at all, and Wire To Wire? Really?

If you're on about the Killers, I think Spaceman is much better than Human.  Another very patchy album from them though, it has to be said - all their albums seem to contain one or two wicked tracks packed in with a whole load of complete guff.

Spaceman is again very good, but Human just got to me in a very strange way from being absolutely non-plussed by it at first to a very near addiction. Day and Age is very patchy as you say though, as have all their albums been. It'll be some greatest hits package when it comes mind you.

That Alesha Dixon song made me want to dynamite my ears off. She seems nice enough and everything, but that song was lame and the hook was particularly irritating (not in a good way either).
