As far as I've worked out, this happens whenever someone deletes the most recent post on a board. Then YaBB doesn't know what the next recent post is, so just picks one at random, or something.

i think its that when you delete a post, the last post time reverts to the time of the last post in the thread you've just deleted from.

so if you delete a post from an old thread, the last post date would go to the last post in that old thread. if that makes sense.
