I'm getting to hear the new Eminem album for free, courtesy of my neighbors playing it loud enough for it to sound like it would if I was playing it myself. Oh joy

Did I say album? I meant song. The same song. Over and over again.

Well, since Maplins staff area bunch of tossers who don't feel the need to staff the electronics section and instead just stand about nattering, I'm now having to wing things. Here's hoping the output on the serial port is going to be enough to push the info over a 100K resistor, rather than a 100 Ohms one as I suspect I'm supposed to be using. Though to be fair, being colour blind means the job could call for 100k, since I can't see an exact reading on the resistance value needed. Though I do see reference to 100R, which is another way of writing 100 Ohm. At least I know I can't blow the board doing this since barely a trickle of juice will hit the system if I use higher rated resistors.

Anyone with better vision than me care to enlighten me as to the colours used in this image?

I'm thinking Brown Black Brown, which is 100 Ohms but I can't be certain.

Those are the ones. You're likely right, since if the value is 100R then the colours would be brown black brown.

Cheers. I hate being colour blind! Though it does lead to hilarious arguements about resistor values with my similarly colour blind older brother.

F*ck beans. Mums living room light has just gone off, all other lights are fine. Its done this once before and blown out a powersupply in the fitting. My worry is the same has happened again. And as usual with Mum and jobs done in her house by members of our family it's going to be me that gets lumbered with fixing it. Thing is a cousin of mine who makes a living as a spark is the one who rewired the house and this is the second fitting in the two years or so since that wiring was installed that has blown. It should be him sorting this, since 1 it's seeming more and more like his potentially sh*tty handiwork that's at fault and 2 he's a qualified and licensed spark.

Just before I left the lights in the spare room flickered so I'm wondering if the local road works has caused a power surge, which again should have been fine thanks to the house now having trips. Bases on the rest of the lighting ring being fine it sounds like the trip hasn't even triggered, which is again a f*ckup on his part since they are suppose to go for any major change in the circuit.

I could kill him. Not only did he charge more than the work done was worth IMO but it's seeming more and more as the wiring ages that he did a right balls up job of it.
