I would reply to this, but I've never seen a martial arts film in my
life so I doubt I would be any help. Sorry.
Abba got it right.

Questionnaire on Martial Arts Films and What Pleasure
People Get From
Watching Them.

1.) Age: 16
2.) Sex: f
3.) Do you watch/have you watched martial arts films
regularly? Whenever they're on
4.) Are you learning a martial art? No
5.) Have you ever taken self-defence classes/had
martial arts lessons
in the past? Yes
6.) What level are you at? My teacher bullied me and
did the Vulcan nerve pinch, so he didn't enter me for
exams even after two years.
7.) Have you been bullied at school/work? A little
8.) Occupation: Student
9.) Hobbies: Writing surreal stories, Star Trek,
making lists, watching the late films

10.) What other sorts of films do you like? Comedy,
Horror, Psycological thrillers, farce and the funny
foreign films that C4 shows at around 2am

11.a) What do you like about martial arts films?
You may want to consider these:
a) Male characters
b) Female characters
c) Story
d) Action
e) Effects/filmmaking techniques
I prefer it if they have no plot. It's like
"Encounters of the Spooky Kind 2", when I had no idea
what was going on except that somebody started
crossdressing and needed his willy cut off at the end
(of the film!). The more corny the film, the better.
A bit like Monkey in movie form is my favourite.

11.b) Also, if you are a female viewer, what does it
mean to you to
see a female actress in the main role?
I prefer it if guys are the lead because that way it
sticks to the basic story of needing to rescue a girl.
I'm fairly impartial though.

12.) What is it about martial arts films, which make
them most
enjoyable for you? What really grabs your attention
about them in
particular?
The fast pace of combat and the outrageous spinning,
especially the final showdown between the hero in
white and the old evil master in black.

13.) Is there anything you dislike about martial arts
films, and if
so, what?
Subtitles. They ruin the humour of bad dubbing.

14.) What is your favourite martial arts film and why?
(If there are
two you like equally, then you can discuss both, but
no more than two
please.)
Probably 'Encounters of the Spooky Kind 2' because it
blends a lot of genres. Actually, it probably doesn't
count as a martial arts movie but I thought it was
fun. Why was the ghost leching?

Thank you very much for taking part. Your input is
very helpful to
this study.

Why thank you back.
