Simple see.

Simon Cowell. Do you like the man? Or would you like to dismantle his face?

Discuss.

hes a stereotypical music industry industry worker, a smug git making millions from shoving the music he wants us to hear in our faces.

Top of my list of people I'd like to punch, for being responsible for Westlife and Gareth Gates, and being so bloody smug about it.

Asides from him irritatingly forcing that crap music on us, I have no problem with him. I agree, if I made that much money, I'd be smug as well, and when it comes to being a b*tch to people in auditions, well they know what they're getting themselves in for, and besides, from the little bit I've seen, some of them really need it....

A very attractive man. Not me. Him.

i like HIM, i don't really like what he does, music wise, but i find him very funny and sometimes clever. and he's not afraid to speak his mind, which is good. to be fair, he does know what he's talking about so if i was on one of those shows i'd trust his opinions over the others

Some of these people do need to be told, so they can get on with their lives and make something of themselves in another field. Possibly. With some, it's touch and go...

As for Cowell, I'm indifferent with him, he does across as a bit of a c*ck, but then again, he's successful, rich and yeah, I'd probably be smug in his situation. I dunno about his quips being hugely witty, it's only really funny because we have a little part inside of us that would love to tell these tone deaf eedjits that they sound like a cat being bum raped in a dustbin.
I hope some day, for some reason, David Duchovny is investigated by the FBI. Because that would make a great story.

He's a smug, arrogant ( there's that word, again) tw*t, and exposed us to Gareth Gates and Will Young, enough said.

the "bands we love" would be more commercially viable if people werent fed crap nothings all day long. major labels keep their best signings hidden from mainstream advertising, as their initial image isnt as easy to sell as a skimply-clothed laydee or a random attractive bloke. people in general are way too easily persuaded by propaganda. fact.

Heh, the thought of 'Phlange Phace' or 'We Have Arrived' being played on top of the Pops or the like, is a hugely funny one

One of my favourite memories of Top Of The Pops is the faces of disgust/bemusement on most of the preteen audience when Radiohead did Knives Out.

Darren makes suprisingly good points, actually. I don't like to agree with him, but I will... for now.

Incidentally I don't hate Simon Cowell because he's nasty to people on Pop Idol, or because he's successful, it's because he's a smug tw*t. I don't care whether I'd be smug in his position or not, I still hate him.

If you listen to anything enough times you'll eventually get sick of it. How much stuff you've had knocking around for ages do you still listen to, even if you loved it at the time? One of the hallmarks of a great song/album is something you can listen to repeatedly and still think it's great every time. However, I also like my music to be new and original, which is why identikit pop bands (and for that matter, identikit rock bands) don't appeal to me.

I respect him professionally as he can generally tell who can sing and who can't and he also takes into account the emotional state of someone, like could they take being famous and stuff....And he says it as it is, which is better than delluding people!

But as a person, he's a womaniser, liar, cheat, greedy money bags man....Not that i know him personally. But i read 'heat' magazine :-[ heheh

This does raise an interesting point though, what would happen if we were havin what most people on this site consider to be decent music rammed at us with the same velocity that pop music is? Would we like it any less, would we like the less popular stuff more (ie Pop music, sicne were going for a role reversal?) Do we not like the music we dont like merely because it is forced upon us in extremis? I have to admit, thier are some tunes in the charts that i do like to some degree, I never thought i'd get into hip hop that much but recently have been finding it on my download list in some shape or form... For the first time in a long time im actually listening to everything and anything and not being scared of reproach. And you know something? its suprising just how much good music you can atually find if you look right under your nose. That said, nothing and i mean nothing will make me ever like country music or even attempt to listen to it.

It's one of those things...

...And Simon Cowell? I'm not going to trawl through all posts that have already been made right now, so I'll probably repeat what everyone else has said, but he's good entertainment. A lot of his nasty comments are probably hammed up for the cameras, and then again a lot of them will be genuine because the people he puts down really deserve them. He can't sit there and tell people that they're a good singer when they can't sing a note, can he? He pulls in the viewers and does his job well. Hence why he's a smug tw*t with lots of money.
