Jon Allen's debut single Dead Man's Suit might be worth checking out when it comes out on February 2. On Happy Now, his voice goes from a Leonard Cohen/ Bob Dylan feel in the verses, to attacking like Noddy Holder in the chorus. Andy McGarvey

I agree with Mark that Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective is stunning. It's like every important sound of the last 40 years, compressed into 55 minutes. Bliss. Chas&Morph

The Shamrocking Bogman A Korean robot ate my Tamagotchi.

Rather careless of you as its parent, wasn't it?

Naff Naff Bob Face I'd get all tony blair's grundies and make 'em into an amazing technicolour coat, then use it in my new Joseph production. Beat that!

Tony's dismissal of the stooges was ignorant beyond belief. What does having a hit have to do with being good or bad? I shudder to think of the delights he's been missing out on by dismissing bands who don't chart. Listen to fun house and tell me the stooges were poor.

raw power is my favourite and they owe a debt to there, but their previous work stands up as truly new and exciting. Shiny McShine

Worrisome

I am so worried about what I will bring to the metaphorical Zine party. For, while some Ziners bring funny and intelligent stories, or fabby mix CDs, or Tizer, I'm scared that I will only ever bring skanky sausage rolls that taste like tony blair's pants. And they just get thrown in the bin. I hope I will bring better things than that.

Blossom Black Shadow

Last but not least, BBS. But how do you know what tony's pants taste like?

As Earls is on the Brits voting panel, can he explain why AC/DC were nominated in the international group/ album categories, when four of the five members are British-born? If Antony Hegarty and Mark Ronson are British enough to win British prizes, surely so are the Young brothers. Dodrade

Earls: Sorry, no idea on how the internationality is decided. An even bigger surprise was that big Aussies Pendulum were in the UK longlist.

Bathtime Pato

That's what I'm getting for Christmas, there's a little set of Pocoyo bathtime toys. Pocoyo, Ellie and Pato- they haven't made a bathtime Stephen Fry The Narrator as yet. If we all write to them they might, just might, make my Christmas.

Void: Our money is on David Johansen to advertise Maximuscle.

I knew Glasvegas when they supported Dirty Pretty Things, and they were a lot better back then. They played retro doo-wop rock & roll, which is a far sight better than all this feedback. It ruined Go Square Go, which used to be fantastic. Liam Greenshaw

What's in a name?

There's something that's been bothering me for a while now. And to be honest, I'm surprised One Winged Angel hasn't mentioned it (she's just too nice, I guess). But now I feel the need to say: Haryuu No Hanekata, if you have in fact chosen to name yourself after the Latin for One Winged Angel, you do realise it is "Hanehata"! There, glad that's off my chest.

Klimmy does Endemol

To boost its ratings, ITV needs a new, fun-filled gameshow. My idea? A sort of, but not really, cross between Bullseye and Big Break. TV personality Keith Chegwin would present, whilst the final round would be called "Beat The Metric System". I imagine acrobats will also be involved on some level. A friend of mine appeared on Fun House. True story.

Klim Detaropave

Sounds far too high brow for ITV.

The reason Oasis weren't nominated for any Brits is that they had their time 14 years ago. They're now at the stage where they win lifetime achievement awards. It's the youngsters' turn now.

I think a lifetime prize is something to be proud of, rather than stating "We don't win proper awards any more, so s*** like this will have to do," as Noel Gallagher did when they picked up their Outstanding Prize in 2007. Indiegirl

Halloween lanterns

I was arguing with Jerry Springer about whether pumpkins or turnips make the best Halloween lanterns, and he told me to "Talk to the hand". I thought to myself: "Talk to the hand? What a strange request." but, figuring it was some weird American custom, I grabbed his hand and started explaining to it the wonders of the turnip. He punched me in the mouth.

To answer Paul's question about Alain Whyte, he's still very much involved in Morrissey's music- he co-wrote his songs on his new album Years of Refusal and I think they're the best ones. So tony blair finished his lazy Labour Party Conference as Prime Minister of the land you call United Kingerland. According to my source, a certain mr brownie, tony did not wear pants during his speech as he likes the wind of free speech to breeze through him like... wind.

iggy pop gets stick for his insurance ad and alice Cooper doesn't because iggy is held in higher regard for his contribution to music. He's seen as a godfather to punk, and selling out is the ultimate no-no. His ads are particularly awful, too. Gman

Monopoly madness

We continued playing against both our better judgements, and became bored again. So we came up with our own Community Chest cards:
- "You win a beauty contest... in your dream! You're a troll. Miss a go".
- "Everything that happens on the board happens in real life. Make general repairs on your houses".
- "Seduce the banker- slip a finger inside his... wallet. Get a free go".

What a celebration of mediocrity the PS' readers' poll results were. It made me realise 2008 was a very poor year for music. Kings of Leon were dull, and the fact they were so lauded amazes me. Elbow have always been brilliant but, if 2008 had been a better year, I suspect they would have remained a hidden gem.

I hope that 2009 is more exciting. It really shouldn't be too hard to beat. Sean O'Neill

- Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?
- Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
- Whose idea was it to put an "s" in lisp?
- Why do people point to their wrist when they want to know the time, but don't point to their bum when asking where the toilet is?
- Why do people go up tall buildings and put money in binoculars to stare at things on the ground?
- Finally, why can't I have my own page?

Naff Naff Bob Face The kids in my area are so posh they go scrumping for bay leaves.

What's posh about that? I snack on them all the time.

Mr Santos I'd like to remake the film Zulu... but call it Zombies and get a Cockney to utter the line "Zombies, 'undreds of 'em."

Mabel would be perfect for the role.

Even a casual glance at my record collection shows a distinct Earls influence. That doesn't stop me being baffled by his championing Franz Ferdinand and giving Ulysses 8/10. To me, it sounds like their usual lumpy music and clunky lyrics that they've always peddled.

Still, I suppose it's our differences as well as our cosy shared tastes that make life interesting. Simon Ellis

darklord WLW, why do they call you that? Why not Jim or Bill or Fred? You know, something simple.

Because it's simpler than calling me by my full name, of course.

h*ll Belly Screamager slayer of The Tapeworms I'm new so I have a question, what the heck is WLW?

"What"? I think you mean "who"?. See above.

I agree with Barry that more people should have bemoaned Florian Schneider leaving Kraftwerk. Without them, we wouldn't have the likes of Autechre. But Barry shouldn't be surprised, as backwards music like Kings of Leon and Elbow are more popular on The Void than true innovators of today. Terry Ryan

Which bands have Voiders found through YouTube footage? Mine is Monaco- how great were they? Peter Hook is a true hero. Snowdog

flyte's Fan Fury

Gosh darnit, lord flyte! And just as I was getting the T-shirts printed! Oh well, I'll just have to change my order to say "Fry is King" then, shall I?

Oo, and can I make some pretty posters of him looking sad? Gee, I guess every cloud has a silver lining.

Moogle Wannabe VII

Get the flyte T-shirts printed anyway and sell them on eBay as collector's items.

I haven't heard U2's new single. But if Simon remembers Pump It Up, I remember when Pump It Up was Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan. In turn, I remember when it was called Too Much Monkey Business by Chuck Berry. Is anything really new? Tim May

If music from ads is to be appreciated, I want Roisin Murphy's Slave To Love on Gucci's new ad to be released. I'd buy it, and I'd buy it now. Uncle Guj

You Poor Sap

Can anyone tell me why we don't eat acorns? I mean, they're obviously food, aren't they? It is possibly because oak trees would grow inside our stomachs, because although a fully grown oak tree wouldn't fit inside me, I think I could handle a couple of saplings.

Frumpy Squirrel

Something tells me The Barking Tree will have something to say about this...

I predict that Beirut's gig at London Forum in May, which sold out in 10 minutes, will be the event of the year and leave music journalists in a state of frenzy. Bring on the March of The Zapotec mini album. Tim Murphy

I think I need to pop in to Vision Express. I keep seeing The Residents every time their ad is on, with men with giant cartoon eyes. Surely that gets iggy pop off the hook? Sandy Cowan

So you have pictures of us Ziners in your head, do you, WLW? Poor you! Mine is the stuff of nightmares- be warned, it will drive you to drink.

It's great to see that a film of Ian Dury's life is being made, but I doubt it'll get a national release. He was a lyrical genius. New Boots And Panties is a must-have. Scott Whiteman

I nerly wet myself reading that Mariah Carey's chipmunk face was put out at not sitting with barack obama at his inauguration, and that P Diddy was annoyed too. They really are two supremely untalented and irritating gimps. Rebecca Nahid
