I've read PS from the start, and would like to thank you for introducing me to Bon Iver. What an album For Emma Forever Ago is. Matt Weston

Great to see the big interview with Robin Guthrie on PS. He had a hand in the most beautiful album of all time, The Moon And The Melodies, which Cocteau Twins made with Harold Budd. Be warned, it's credited to the four of them by name. I listen to it about three times a week. Adam Syntax

College

I was walking to my table at college with my food and this girl didn't hear my cries of "please can I pass?".

My food "accidentally" fell out of my hand and on to her coat.

She wasn't amused. "I hope you're going to pay for the dry-cleaning," she yelled. "Bung it in the washing machine, love!" I roared. She ran out crying. What a day.

Dry-cleaners are just as likely to ruin things, I've found.

I'll retract some of my criticism of Muse, after playing Black Holes a bit more. I can see its appeal, as it's varied and epic, but it isn't my cup of tea. However, I still say Matt Bellamy sounds like a bad Thom Yorke and I can't understand how he gets away with it. John Ox

Gimpatron

I was stinkin' (haha, I said stinkin' instead of thinkin', I'm right funny, me, like!) the other day about your name, WLW.

As we all know, it stands for White Line Warrior. But the line isn't white, it's blue. It's the text which is white. So you should be renamed to either BLW or WTW.

Both look pretty rubbish though.

The Boys were great at London ULU last week. I enjoyed jumping up and down with the other middle-aged balding beer bellies down the front: it was worth the 29-year wait to see them again. It's sad it was their last ever gig. I felt very lonely walking home, knowing I'll never see them again. It's like losing a loved one. Eamon Quinn

English Lit

You know your English lesson has gone off on a tangent when your teacher launches into a 15-minute discussion about the greatness of Little Britain. Apparently, Emily masquerades her femininity and so it is valid viewing for our current topics.

Then my teacher moved on to how we should also watch Interview With A Vampire because "Brad Pitt is like well fit!". And Lit is meant to be (difficult)?

New singles, by Innes Weir

Adele Make You Feel My Love 5/10

A tasteful, if pontless cover, of Bob Dylan's haunting classic, this is sigle five from her 19 album and critical knives are sharpening. Yes, she can carry a tune. But so can most of this year's X Factor finalists.

PINT SHOT RIOT Holes 8/10

The upstart kids on the Midlands guitar scene deliver a brash, anthemic beauty here. Like The Fratellis in a foul mood, here's a singalong for bad boys.

1/6.

New singles out next week

LAURA MARLING Night Terror 8/10

A curious track to release from her album, this mournful, string-laden oddity is spellbinging nonetheless. She might have more in common with Joni Mitchell than pj harvey, but Marling does dark with thepoise of a master.

THE VIRGINS Rich Girls 7/10

Were Frenz to cover the rolling stones' miss you, it would sound like this strangely addictive slice of NYC crunk funk. Effortlessly groovy stuff.

2/6.

New singles out next week

THE PADDINGTONS What's The Point In Anything New 6/10

Cynics might ask what point there is in The Paddingtons trying to sound like The Clash. That said, this sparky, punk-like banger is a devilishly catchy response. Purist bores will still hate it, of course.

THE RAID Oh Lilee 4/10

Plodding. clichéd rawk in the vein of Black Crowes, it makes you wonder where The Raid will end up. Woolworths' bargain bin looks like a decent bet.

3/6.

New singles out next week

AIMEE MANN Thirty One Today 6/10

The "Pop for grown ups" tag will haunt her forever, but, listen objectively, and this story of birthday blues is a beautifully understated study in melancholy. Imagine Carly Simon singing a Neil Finn standard and you're there.

helen boulding It's You 4/10

Uh-ho. Here's the sort of dull songwriting that does deserve stick. Schmaltzy, ponderous gash for cruise ship bars and Butlins.

4/6.

New singles out next week

KEITH Up In The Clouds 8/10

Recalling the dark psychedelia of World of Twist, this is spacerock with guts and tempo. Chin-strokers will love the nods to Neu and Can, but it's not worth studying like that. Smash it out at full blast and prepare for mayhem.

WAVE MACHINES The Greatest Escape We Ever Made 7/10

The shadow of Hot Chip looms large, but there's a kookier, surrealist side to this that will delisght stoners and disco kids alike.

5/6.

New singles out next week

GOLDEN SILVERS Magic Touch 8/10

Sounding uncannily like Orange Juice at their pop-perfect, euphoric best, Magic Touch is a harmony-drenched joy. Rhodes keys and machine gun drumrolls add delicious retro flavours to one of the giddiest, loveliest tracks of the year.

DANIEL TSE Broken Wing 2/10

One of the most hideous, manufactured piece of pop trash you'll ever hear. This makes Rick Astley sound cutting edge. Beyond average, beyond help.

6/6.

The Perfect Film

The plot would focus on a robotic ghost dog from either the future or the past (I haven't decided yet) who bonds with a troubled clown called Clive.

They would go on hilarious adventures in the Wild West and fight evil, which would take many, mind-altering forms.

The film would contain a large degree of kung-fu and God would be involved at some point (key sub-plot).

HM is best Bond

Favourite Bond film is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The closest adaptation of a Fleming novel, a great Bond girl in Diana Rigg, a fantastic instrumental score, Telly Savalas as Blofeld, a cracking story with a tragic, uncharacteristic end and Louis Armstrong's beautiful theme song.

The fact it contains the worst Bond is irrelevant, showing that the formula is more important than the actor in the title role. S Ramsay, Cheshire

Dorian Gray

Imagine how the story would've been if Mr. Gray had never met the painter who painted the portrait which gave Mr Gray eternal youth after he made his wish.

Instead of frequenting opium dens and brothels, he would have had to make do with the library instead. Little chance of acquiring wrinkles of sin there.

* If you want to win a girl, give her a field full of daffodils.

Dear Ziners,

You've probably all heard the song about me but it really gives the wrong impression. I didn't swallow all those creatures on purpose. I was innocently watching Time Team when a fly flew into my mouth, and in an attempt to rescue him, the spider followed, then the bird and well, you know the rest.

Today, while walking home from school, I realised that the house next door to me is up for sale. If this was bad enough, the people living on the other side of me also had their house up for sale.

If they cannot stand the Chili Peppers at full blast most nights then good riddance to them. Viva la loud music revolution.

I checked out Martyrs and Switchblade Romance. Europe is showing the US how it's done. Martyrs showed Eli Roth up for the bore he is. Lee, Barnsley

After just a week of living with my boyfriend I came home to find him sobbing at Legends of The Fall. He cries every time he sees it. Kellie, Weston0super-Mare

Minesweeper

Spontaneously Combusting Penguin, can we form Minesweepers Anonymous? After using the bombs to spell out words, I finally read the rules and- bang! I could play. And gotti schmotti, I haven't stopped since. I also got really offended when one of my friends asked if you just had to press random buttons until you win. I mean, really.

Film 2009 a big yawn

So will Film 2010 be as boring? Where can we turn to once Teletext has gone? I'm hoping we can rabbit about films on a Freeview channel. Herbie, Fairford

Tim and James- Barry Norman was lured away from the BBC by Sky at the same time Sky acquired the sole rights to screen the Oscars. Jamie, Wakefield

I'm Back!

Respect to da man in in the ice cream van. 'Tis I, HP Baaxter. Long time, no see.

I had the most interesting chat with the Brigadier yesterday. Apparently, he is an even bigger Scooter fan than me, so watch out, samurai hedgehog, cos Scooter fans are here to stay! Mwahahahaha!

HP Baaxter

If he plays them Scooter no wonder he gets through French maids so quick.

My favourite Arnie film is, without a doubt, True Lies. James, York

Jason And The Argonauts is a classic that will never be beaten. Pete, Aston

Paul- Thanks for the tip about The Haunting In Connecticut. I know not to bother now. Phil, Herts

The funniest comedy horror I have ever seen is Braindead. Not scary, just hilarious. Paul, Hants

The Morning After...

After looking after my "tipsy" friend at a party last night I have found out a few things about him.

* He has a morbid fear of pretzels and must stamp on them all.
* He wants to touch another boy's nipples.
* His favourite hobby is sliding.
* When he hears the word "thong" it translates to "bowl" in his mind.

Hungry for more Thirst

Thirst adheres to vampire love and is a bit generic and formulaic in places but it's not a traditional horror film. It's ostensibly a rom-com despite the blood and gore. Go see. Rich, Aylesbury

Rich- Bey Logan's commentaries often sway me on buying a DVD. Brimming with trivia and relaxed. Mark, Kidderminster

I can't believe I am saying this but Halloween 2 was worse than the original. Gothic Fairy, Nottingham

Wacky

Isn't it annoying when people try to be wacky? When they tell you those dreaded words, "By the way, I'm just insane." Liars.

If they were really insane, they'd have tried to tell me about the wonders of magical timecubes or tried to convince me someone had built a coalshed in my hand. Which, to be honest, would be more interesting than wacky people.

Triangle offers different view

Maybe VO was a bit (harsh) on Triangle, after all it was a very clever film and although hard to truly love it was something different. I would recommend it to those bored of the same old clichéd thrillers currently doing the rounds. Simon Reed, West Moors

sinatra's final Warner films

Warner Bros have somehow overlooked both the naked runner and dirty dingus magee for release on DVD. Those were sinatra's final films with Warners. The latter directed by Sidney J.Furie and shot on location in London and the war-torn Leipzig in Germany.

Both films were underrated on release. the naked runner in particular, being a very slow spy drama released when James Bond was globe-trotting and cutting a dash. Hugh, Motherwell
