What is the best movie of 2009?

Moon with Sam Rockwell is by far the best film of the year, if not the decade. Brilliant. Jo, Barnsley

Exams

Why do so many teachers insist on wearing high heels? I mean, isn't the whole point of an exam to have quiet so we can concentrate? High heels and a wooden floor don't make the quietest noise, especially when they walk around the hall every two minutes like a certain teacher did today in my exam. Didn't even attempt to walk quietly.

Oh no, it's alright for them, isn't it?

Gnuffo1

And frankly, he should never have been wearing heels in the first place.

Moon discovery

Will miss Vortex when it's gone. Two classic films I've found this year because of the Vortexters are Moon and Let The Right One In. There's also a lot of others I'm going to look up because of your readers. So long, and keep watching. Lee, Birtley

New Moon is a brilliant film. Great fright scene between the vampires. Lots of muscles from the wolves and a surprise ending. I'm going to watch the film again. Mea, Cinderford

Things I'm Going To Do:

1 Become President of Guatemala
2 Marry Avril Lavigne
3 Work harder (next week, obviously)
4 Stop watching Trisha

I could add "get out more" to that list, but that would bjust be too obvious. Not likely, anyway.

Favourite Asian films?

My favourite Asian films are i'm A Cyborg And Death Note. And at 12, I think I can take the youngest Vortexter crown. Evan, Coatbridge

I agree with Richard about Sudden Fury. If you like that you should check out Lucio Fulci's Contra. It's another violent gangster flick. Steven, Hexham

Great Things About My Home Town- Newcastle

* The amount of black and white pride everywhere, it's so justified, don'tcha think?
* The amount of charvers; such great, civilised people.
* The wonderful accent; so painfully unavoidable.
Yep, Newcastle sure is one h*ll of a town.

Movie query solved

K- The movie is called The Manitou, starring Tony Curtis. Steve, Stockport

I'm reading a biography of James Stewart and he despised the colourisation of black-and-white films as a "terrible process", something to which I agree. How ironic then that the owners of It's A Wonderful Life have done this to con people out of money. I'm sticking to my black-and-white version. Peter, Saxmundham

ATP worth the effort

I'm thinking of going to an ATP festival for the first time, but wondering if they're worth the effort either financially or- more cruciall- musically? It's a good sign that most of them sell out, but Voiders' advice would be most welcome. Miki Ogarawa

Brown cover a classic

Ian Brown's new cover of Zager And Evans' In The Year 2525 was recently dismissed by a Voider but, for people of a certain age who like classic pop, it's a classic. My favourite cover was by Steve Strange of Visage. Andy Atwal

Since most Ziners seem to be printed with a new addition to Poetry Corner, I thought I would attempt it:

Warrington has many factories and many dirty places
Even so, the people there always have clean faces.
Warrington is great,

it's smelly, so beware.
I don't live in Warrington by the way.

My albums of the decade would be by Rilo Kiley, Todds' Liars, The Lemonheads, Pernice Brothers, Wilco, Beulah and Kevin Tihista's Red Terror. I guess that puts me in a minority of one. Goodbye, PS, it was fun while it lasted. Brian Hammill

* The leeds team, minus Terry Venables
* Pop-ups on the net... grrrrrrrrr
* Poodles- in fact, all dogs that resemble rats.

Next, reasons why I hate townie students.

PS and the closure of Teletext in general is a tragedy. I'm losing a magazine that's been part of my daily routine for as long as I can remember. I was proud to be listed as a regular contributor ton PS' Wikipedia entry.

Stop Moaning!

WLW, I bet you're fed up with all the whiny letters you're getting regarding Zine's new e-mail location and colour scheme. Well, I'd just like to say that I don't mind it at all.The Teletext bosses wouldn't let us move back to p142 anyway- we'd be part of the horrendous Lifestyle magazine! Who'd want that? Furthermore, Ace has adopted the Mega-zine logo as its own. Surely this shows our influence is increasing... Long live Zine!

Boys!

Seriously though, what is the problem with them? First they ask you out. You stop to consider, but before you can blink, they're going out with a girl who looks very similar to you.

Then they insist that they MUST talk to you, but they disappear without trace. Decent boys must have become extinct.

Bond's early years

People seem to be forgetting that Daniel Craig is playing early Bond. This is a Bond that is impetuous, impulsive and in many ways immature. He has not yet become the smooth and suave Bond he became later. You can't fairly compare Craig to Connery. I think Craig is doing a fine job and giving a new depth to Bond.

A Few Facts (not entirely true) About Elves:

1 Elves come in all shapes and sizes, and can be hired to help in the home
2 Elves drive my college bus
3 Elves backwards is Sevle-cunningly Sevle is the leader of the elves
4 Elves are in fact make believe, like Santa and eskimos

farmer jack

WH-A-AT? What are you saying? There's no such thing as eskimos?

A Typical College Day

8am: Wake up to sound of Mum screaming
9am: After cold shower wakes me, eat
9:30am: Run to college, late again
10am- 5pm: Daydream, wake up from lunch, daydream, cram six hours of work into 15 minutes, then go home. Eat, do cleaning job, shower, bed

If anyone has a better life, I'd like to hear it!

Syfantic

I notice no time set aside for the reading of Zine... tut tut.

A-Level Practical Exam

Rehearsals were catastrophic. How was I supposed to act with that pigeon wandering in and out of the hall? I was forced to shout "stop the pigeon!" about five times.

After the play, I went to take my stage make up off and the caretaker locked my clothes in the hall. I was left wandering the school in a clown costume until I found him. Fun.

Ammopogo

This sounds great- I love a good farce.

News from pop's future! Attempting to conjure more cash from Queen's rotting corpse, May and Taylor try out H from Steps as a singer, before he's replaced by Freddie Mercury via Derek Acorah.

Cheryl Cole quits Girls Aloud, but her fake tan, hair extensions and capped teeth quit, meaning she has to rely on her personality, meaning she's up pop creek. And Dermot O'Leary and Simon Cowell shock the world by forming a group, The Oily T****s. Rob Hunt

After Bob Dylan's Christmas album and Paul McCartney's ticket prices ripping off fans and possibly going on The X Factor, it's good to see Paul Weller keeping his credibility intact. I love his free new song 7&3 Is The Striker's Name and it's unlike anything he has ever done before. Moggy

Miki should go to ATP, it's cool. But why has the Pavement one sold out so quickly? Where were all these fans 15 years ago? Infinite Spark

WLW

Why doesn't Rolf Harris ever win any awards? He's been around for decades, if not centuries. Everyone knows him, and loves him, with the possible exception of any serious artists.

Go on, give him an award. After all, he did help patch up Davord after that little... (incident).

Yours ingratiatingly,

The Pedantic One

His stitching left a lot to be desired, Davord still gets scabs.

The Antlers' new album Hospice isn't just my album of the year, but probably of the decade. Never had I had an album on repeat like this masterpiece. Anyone who likes dark, atmospheric and moving music should check it out, pronto. Paulie H

Penfold should buy The Big Pink's album A Brief History of Love. It's not all feedback-laden rock, there are some heartfelt songs which will tug at your heartstrings. Alan Ross

WLW

So you're the famous WLW, are you? I bet you're just a nerdy little 20-year-old man under all that glamour. I bet you have Star Trek parties every Friday night and discuss who is the best superhero.

No wonder you never do Zine on Saturdays. C'mon, WLW, tell us the truth... eh?

Pink Hairy Warthog

Nerdy little 20-year-old Trekkie? Coming from a pink hairy warthog?

Should Penfold buy The Temper Trap's album Conditions? Well, Sweet Disposition is an amazing song that any album would struggle to maintain. That said, the rest of it has a slow-burning quality. I'm going to miss PS, big style. Gazzoir

To warn Last FM users: If you put Le Sac Vs Pip on a playlist, Last FM insinuates you may also be a fan of Goldie Lookin Chain and Speech Debelle. My attorney has been informed. T Durden
