Blue Hair

Have younoticed how, in any cartoon, there is always at least one character with blue hair? James in Team Rocket, Marge Simpson, the guy in X-Men... and yet I have never met any real person who had blue hair.

So, why on earth do they do it?
Bob Snitchet

Granny WLW has blue hair! Well, more of a blue rinse really.

Dear Santa

This year I would like:

1 To destroy the Big Brother house, complete with residents.
2 Total control of the western hemisphere.
3 To see Will Young, Gareth Gates et al sacrificed to appease the gods for our wrongdoings.
4. Some wintery weather at the correct time; ie, not summer.
5. An orange teapot.
Satan's Rubber Duck

The orange teapot is pushing it. He's a busy man, you know.

At a time when literate, intelligent bands are at more of a premium than ever, it's mind-boggling to see the wonderful Hope of The States be dismissed as "tuneless clowns". I despair sometimes, I really do. The Doc

I don't always agree with Earls's reviews, but he introduced me to Hope of The States, one of the best bands this decade. Unlike Misanthrope, I'd put their second album in my all-time Top 10, not Riots. The Deceiver

WLW

Look into my eyes, you are getting very sleepy, your eyelids are heavy, so heavy you can hardly keep them open. Go to sleep, WLW.

When you awake, you will be neither man or woman and shall work for Ch4 p142, where a bunch of loonies will write in to you every day. Well, did it work?

Thanks to PS, I first heard of Liam Frost many years ago and I'm so glad you brought him to my attention. His debut album was great, he's a superb live performer and, after briefly meeting him at his Manchester Rubg gig on wednesday, he's a lovely bloke.

His new album should be a cracker, from what I've heard. He looked 10 years younger, and seemed more confident of himself. Three other good acts on the bill, all for £8. Moggy

Jade: dartboard for WLW Towers.
Kate: The Brigadier's taking her off our hands, so no problem there.
Alex: Hatstand/ clotheshorse for WLW.

Names

You were saying how names aren't always true. For example, The Kilted Haggis not being Scottish and Pink Mafia not really being pink, but I would like to confirm that I am most definitely a lemon and the 12th one at that.

Maybe a pic of me would help people believe this?

How bad were Franz Ferdinand and La Roux doing Call Me at the NME awards last week? A lot of singers I love can't sing in the classical sense, but they were truly awful. "Flat" doesn't even come close. At least with Guantamo Bay shutting down, they can't use it there. Lem Fatale

The singles chart is a poll of sales. Not many people bought U2's single, hence its low position. It's not hard to understand. Croydon Barry

Nobody seems to have anything positive to say about Muse releasing a classical album, but I'm very excited to hear it. Muse have touched on classical music from the start, shown on all their albums, so they're not new to it. Nor are they pretentious, as Ellis seems to think. Citizen Erased

All this talk of The Specials reforming reminds me of seeing them in 1978 in Leeds, when they supported The Stranglers. Great days. Kev Hyland

When I Was Young

When I first began reading Zine many years ago, I can remember thinking that weird thing in the top right hand corner was actually a portrait of WLW. And, of course, for all we know this theory could well be correct.

I wonder what it would be like if we had the knowledge that WLW was in fact a demented blob with a contorted face?

I went out with Granny WLW last night- believe me, I look like that today.

Metallica at Manchester MEN on Wednesday showed that, even after 28 years of playing live, they still rule the arenas. When I first saw the support band, Machine Head, they nearly stole Slayer's thunder in 1994. Slayer were weak in comparison. Scary Guy

WLW's Identity Revealed

Ziners, wonder no longer about WLW's identity. I have discovered that WLW is, in fact, ex-*rsenal and Dirty Leeds manager George Graham.

Think about it, he still has a deep love for *rsenal (look at how he did at Spurs). Not only that, but we all know WLW is a comedy genius. Who else would think of spending millions on Sergei Rebrov?!

Oh The Hilarity!

I was completely, totally and utterly bored and decided to amuse myself by laughing at the less than fortunate (namely the people who write to B*ckch*t).

Someone asked if the Ed ever got bored with reading their drivel, to which the reply was: "We enjoy reading alll your letters, as long as they are interesting, funny or topical." Are these people mad? Nothing that's printed on B*ckch*t ever falls into those categories.

WLW

I wanna make a complaint against the makers of that movie. Scooby Doo. They have done to the legend what All Saints did to Under The Bridge and in doing so have defiled my childhood. How can they pick that awful cast? Velma should have been played by Kelly Osbourne (fat, whiny nerd). Fred should have been played by anyone but Freddy Prinze Jr. Shaggy was made for Screech from Saved By The Bell, and Daphne was never that.. carrotesque!

Plurals

Should you, by some weird chance, have more than one mongoose,, would you havre mongooses, mongeese or still mongoose? Like fish. Personally, I think fishies or fishes sounds better than fish, if you are talking about plurals.

If someone asked you what you had for lunch and you said fish, they might not know if you had one fish, or more than one fish. The same goes for sheep.

The age-old question that I have only recently worked out the answer to; when does a boy become a man?

Dogs Rule!

Cats. What's so great about them anyway? You can't take them for walks, they won't fetch sticks, they don't bark at intruders and, the minute you stop feeding them, they disappear.

Dogs, on the other hand, don't see you as a walking scratching post that can open tins. Plus, they are infinitely cuter.

I'm rather concerned by Dave Rowntree's plans to quit Blur to become a lawyer. Surely there are enough lawyers in the world without adding to their number? I suggest holding a reality TV show to discover one lawyer who is willing to give up the law to do... well, whatever it is that Dave actually does in Blur.

Also, some people are shocked that, at 50, Michael Jackson will still be able to perform. Surely some bits of him are less than five years old? DJ Gordy

The interview segments in Elvis Costello's chatshow Spectacle are horribly self-congratulatory back-slapping. There's no real insight into any of the artists, beyond the affirmation: "You're really great." "I know, thank you."

However, the performances from Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson and Costello's wife Diana Krall were rather special and made the tedium somewhat worth it. Bobby Cook

Thank goodness the popularity of the 7" still exists. Otherwise, what would the naked Morrissey have used to cover his nether regions on the inner sleeve of his new single I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris? A CD wouldn't have been satisfactory.

However, if I was Morrissey, I would have opted to use the gatefold sleeve of The Smiths' Hatful of Hollow album to hide my modesty, just to boast a little. Mr Krush

For Earls to call The Lonely Island's album Incrediband one-dimensional is laughable. His review focused on its singles and previous skits which, after 9m views on YouTube, can get tiring. The album has 19 hilarious songs with lyrics that will be drilled into your head. They're very different to Flight of Conchords. Robyn Donaldson

I agree that, with the release of new albums by Dr Dre, Eminem and certainly Lupe Fiasco, hip hop will get a shot in the arm. But, with Dre spending more time on producing Eminem watered down like Robinson's Barely Water and Lupe already talking of retirement, is the future of rap Flo Rida? I certainly hope not.

Hopefully grime can carry the torch until The Roots hit big or someone new breaks through. David McMillan

There is always an old woman knitting, a girl reading, a dirty old man (asleep) and a fool with a mobile phone in your compartment.

And I always have to sit next to an obese creature with a badly-fitting wig. I don't know whether this applies to anyone else, but I hope not.
Bob Snichet

Believe me, it applies to "everyone" else.

Barbie

I do believe this is the most annoying doll on Earth. Not only is she perfect in every way, owning a 4x4, jet plsne, having numerous baby sisters but... she haas legs which, if she were to scale, would be up to her armpits.

Also, if Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy all of her friends?

Brussels Sprouts

Why? What purpose do they serve, apart from putting you off your Christmas dinner?

Maybe they contain the power to destroy the world when eaten, and that's why they taste so foul!
Rusturedd The Squirrel Warrior

The only power I get from sprouts is most unpleasant.

Huh?

Savage Cabbage This goes out to the one I love! You know who you are!

Is it me? Is it? It's me, is it?

Autumn Angel I am only a fair maiden when I got bored of being a damsel in distress.

WLW And Ziners

Since this is my first e-mail, and Poetry Corner is very popular right now, I thought I'd make a contribution. I apologise in advance for the terrible effort you're about to read *ahem*.

I'm an angry little timebomb
Yet lovely, sweet and kind.
A demonic little angel
The best the world will find.

Oh dear, I must be tired. Where's my Creme Egg?

Things I Did Today

1 Went through the Encyclopedia Britannica and picked out all the typos.
2 Drew a perfect circle, free hand.
3 Scratched my nose, with my elbow.
4 Dragged a fridge around Ireland for a bet.
5 Got my letter screened on Zine. My crowning acheivement.
Urban Hero

What a busy little bunny you've been! Me, I... Er, what did I do exactly?

What?

Can this be? Styluskid, you've hit the jackpot. The chances of there being two Ziners in such a small and insignificant place as Bromsgrove must be quite remote- and yet here I am.

So... what's best about Bromsgrove? The dolphin centre? Asda? The amazingly substance-free Avertier newspaper?

I'll Be In Therapy For Years To Come

Last night I watched a programme very late at night/ early in the morning called Dare To Believe. Imagine The Sketch Show written by a psychopath and you've got it.

One sketch was of a woman giving people an elk warning, while another showed a man asking "Where's your ladle? Mine's here," whilst holding a ladle. If anyone else saw the programme, please tell me it actually happened.

I missed it- and, boy, am I glad.

You Know It's Hot When...
* The boiled sweet on the pavement has melted.
* Fat people swelter in unforgiving pastel shorts.
* You see more Harley Davidsons.
* You have to close the curtains to stop the sun melting your audio-visual equipment.
* You spend time indoors sheltering from the sun instead of the rain.

Greetings All

Only just got the e-mail address, so this is my first message.

Please don't vote Jade off Big Brother, keep her in. Except at the end... board up the place with her still in there and keep her there for good. Much safer than letting her roam free.
Supernatural Swan

A Leprechaun Called Steve After talking about the best C4 shows, I think I'll mention the best C5 shows. Um... bit of a dry hole, isn't it?

Isn't it just.
