VR kicks ass!

Well I am once again off to sun my rump this Christmas, so do you lot fancy doing all the work?

Yes, the second annual Christmas Takeover is upon us. Who knows if it will reach the giddy heights of last year, we can but hope.

If you fancy guest-editing your own edition, register your interest before November 13. Registration is by e-mail only as you'll need to provide an address to be a guest editor.

Again, you'll have to do a manifesto to start your edition, then you'll have to choose four letters to reply to.

Of course, for it to work we need people to write into all the guest editors as well. In the interest of Christmas spirit, please, play nice to non-VR folk.

You could say the 'Zine has had a near-death experience recently, so there are some top cheeses at Teletext taking more interest than usual in our patch of turf. Hopefully we won't disappoint!

To make things interesting, shall we have a poll afterwards for the best guest editor?

Ah, g'wan then. I was opting out out of "It's selfish to do it again", but if you're desperate for more people, I'm a people.
And maybe some old Teletext celebrity names could show up - It could be worth e-mailing Cedric or Mr. Biffo? Hell, maybe even Bamber Boozler or that guy from Maxïmo Park or Ian Huntley.

please, play nice to non-VR folk.

Now, that's a point that needs some discussion. I admit I generally prefer VRers' 'Zine presence to non-VRers', probably to the point of believing most non-VRers just don't get 'Zine. But that's romanticising its 'glory days', really. Hrm.

As LBF said, your manifesto is just a paragraph/letter to introduce yourself and your edition. How you do it is up to you.

As for the guest editing itself, I'll publish the names of all the guest editors at the end of the week and invite people to write in to them. You'll probably get a mix of letters specifically for you and some general 'Zine letters if I need to make up the numbers.

Writing in to the guest editors is just as important as being a guest editing so hopefully no one will be shy on that front.

I'll email your choice of letters to you, then you'll probably have around two weeks to get your manifesto and and witty replies back to me. Then each guest editor will be assigned a day over the Christmas period. So, not actually much work required by the guest editors.

I do need to get the list of names together sharpish though, so anyone definitely up for it send an email to mega-zine@teletext.co.uk.

Thankies

So Pablo Marmite wins the non-award for most popular guest editor.

They have more than enough already, so no more letters for them please.

Same goes for Vigilante Maelstrom.

If you really want to you can still write to them, but obviously they will have to choose only four to use.

Everyone else can still get letters at this stage.

Huzzah to everyone who has written in already. Boo hiss to anyone who hasn't, but there's still time to get them in before Monday.

Here's hoping there's one final surge over the w'end so there's enought letters to go around!

Argh, I have the chronic inability to write on demand... so far I've managed only one specific and one general. I really will try to do more over the weekend, but I find it really tough.

And as for the popularity contest, I wouldn't worry. I don't think I got a single specifc letter for my edition last year, and I can't say as it made me feel unwanted. After all, I'm hardly a major presence on VR and my letters don't say much about me, so I'd find it tough to address one to me as well!
