The decline of CD singles has been on the cards for years, with gimmicks to ensure they become instant hits taking their toll. At least with downloads, the pricing is simple and you get what you pay for. Dionne Jones

My first gig was AC/DC at Leeds Queen's Hall on 1/10/1982 when I was 14. It was £4 and brilliant. I still see bands now. I saw Sons And Daughters on Friday, and they were great too. Martyn Percival

I'm with Earls rather than Lawrie on the new Ladytron album. It's boring and samey throughout. It was my first intro to the band, and I found it a letdown. Steve Reynolds

I don't see why the Voider whose first album was 90125 by Yes should be so embarrassed by it. It was mine too, when I was seven, and I eventually became such a fan that I bought their entire back catalogue on vinyl and then again on CD a few years later. Matt RSJ

The Reverend's complaints about the security at Ministry's farewell gig at Manchester Academy amused me. It's worth remembering Ministry played in the same town as Damageplan the night Dimebag Darrell was sh*t dead on stage.

I doubt the people at that gig would have any qualms about metal detectors. I wasn't too inconvenienced at the same gig. Revd should save his money in future and I'll gladly take your place at safer gigs. Andy Whittaker

I'm no Oasis fan, but for Ricky Wilson to say Kaiser chiefs are the natural successor to Oasis is as laughable as if The Bay City Rollers had claimed they were the heirs to The Beatles. Red Dirt Girl

I have dtarted driving lessons and have entered the world of the motorist. Things I have enjoyed doing in my lessons so far include stalling at traffic lights, stalling at crossings and anywhere else I get the chance!

Motorists are a great bunch, as they all beep their horns to show the hilarity of it.

I'm glad Planet Sound did an obituary on that innovator Bo Diddley. It seemed in his final days he only appeared in the music news sections after his health scares, when he was knocking on heaven's door and cheekily running away.

The death of the single is in part due to chart compilers OCC's decision too make the single as unattractive as possible, such as banning singles with more than three songs, and those old lovely 7" doublepacks. Bring back proper four-song EPs like My Bl*ody Valentine's Glider. Adam Syntax

It's good of Radiohead to suddenly start worrying about the plight of independent record shops. A bit late, though, considering most of them have already closed. Foo Fighters were good on Friday at Wembley, but the acoustics let them down. I stood on the pitch for the first 90 minutes and sat 25ft from the stage for the remaining hour, and they were much better at London 02 last year. Tony Tudor

I'm bemused how Oasis are getting the Silver Clef lifetime achievement award over Van Der Graaf Generator. 4o years in, still pushing boundaries and essential in concert. Alan Watson

Adam Syntax is right that chart compilers OCC have killed off the single. They made them uncollectable, as gifts like free stickers and more than two B-sides are apparently an "unfair advantage". By doing that, they made music more disposable, in a "May as well download it" manner. Bring back the 10", it's a start. Sonic Ross

Kaiser Chiefs duetting with Lily Allen should give them a clue to their real level of credibility. Michael Harper

Filter never get mentioned here. So, after their gig at Islington Academy on Monday, I thought it was time they did. They were awesome. Praise to their support band Mexicolas. I'm not a fan of current indie, but there's something fresh about them. My first gig was being dragged along to Neil Diamond by my mum when I was seven. Caro Anderson

I can't believe Mint Royale are No 1. It was rubbish first time round. Middy

Good on Kerrie for getting into the world of Russell and Ron Mael. My first gig was Sparks at Croydon Fairfield in 1974, and my next gig is Sparks at Shepherds Bush Empire on Thursday for the Exotic Creatures premiere. What a band, still fresh after 21 albums. Mick Vanner

I read Earls's 10/10 gig review of Bon Iver before going to bed on Thursday, and couldn't sleep a wink; I wasn't even there! Ollie Holtam

Adam is right to say chart compilers OCC killed off the single. Three songs only, cheap singles just for the first week of sale, hype/ airplay overkill for weeks before release all helped kill it. The single used to be a joy: four-track EPs, gatefold sleeves, extra songs, gifts (remember the ones The Primitives gave away?).

Oh, and for mentioning My Bl*ody Valentine as a good EP, I could marry Adam. Honey Power

Ladytron's new album, Velocifero, is a disappointment. The production is flat, and the mix sounds like a salvage job. I can't believe all the band are happy with it. They've spent too much time in the US, and it shows. They're still a class act, but Velocifero means they'll remain at cult status. Hogs

I'm ripping my CD collection on my PC, and the odd classic is distracting me. I spent last night in Beth Orton's Trailer Park. Bliss. Tony Vegas

I don't get it. Okkervil River announce they're releasing a new album mere months after The Stage Names, and it features the incomparable Charles Bissell on guitar. Will Sheff is covering The wrens' Ex-Girl Collection. And The Wrens are going to be on national TV? This must be the most vivid dream of my life. Jazz

Embarrassing albums? I own a Bananarama, but a friend who shan't be named owns one by Telly Svalas. Tony Grant

It's great to see Everlast is about to release a new album. I can't think of anyone who mixes rap and country as well as him. Gavin Marchant

Ricky Wilson is living in a fantasy land if he thinks his pub band can even get close to Oasis. Neither of Kaiser Chiefs' albums will be selling in 10 years, whereas Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory changed music in their country. Kaisers were shown up by Macca at Anfield. Hennessy

My first single was the Star Wars theme on 7" when I was seven, and the first record I bought on my own was Run To The Hills by Iron Maiden, aged 12.

My first gig was The Cult at Leeds Uni on their Love tour in 1985, and I loved it. I saw The Sisters of Mercy at the same venue a few weeks later. Those gigs were mindblowing, transforming me into a full-on rock chick. I'm 38 and regularly go to gigs. New York dolls next. Surrinda Ward

My first gig was Slade at Bournemouth Winter Gardens in 1980. Since then, I've seen hundreds of gigs, everything from Maxwell to Metallica, including Prince over 200 times. Next up: Download. The Horse

My first concert was Klaus Wanderlich at Hatfield Forum in 1984. Owning 150 of his albums and seeing him was magical. My first gig was Pet Shop Boys at Wembley Arena. I'd never seen anything like it. Stephen Coley
