Eels - Live and In Person

I believe it's only available at their gigs, as it did have an "exclusive" poster next to it. Tis from their show/shows in London in 2006. Tis a CD/DVD combo too, so many yays coming from my DVD player tomorrow.

MF Doom - MM.. Food?

Good-but-not-classic follow-up to the excellent Operation: Doomsday. When it's good it's great, but there isn't enough Doom on the mic and those four instrumental tracks lumped together disrupt the flow of the album. Some great beats, mind.

Also got Vincent Vincent and The Villains and Does It Offend You Yeah? to review. The former is sounding very promising.

The Auteurs album is f*cking aceness indeed, although I think New Wave is his masterpiece, under that name at any rate. I'd just like to point out to everyone, again, that as far as English songwriters go, Luke Haines (how apt that his name translates as 'hate' in French, just like that guy in Joyce's Ulysses ) is right up there with the best of them.

Have you two heard After Murder Park? Love that album, seriously dark and twisted sh*t. The Albini production is great too, the guitars sound razor-sharp and the drums are pretty slammin'.

Yep, that was the first album by them I bought, all the way back in 1996 or summat daft like that. F*cking great stuff that, very nasty lyrically but it's funny as f*ck in places as well. "So p*ss down on people's pity/let's get on with the nitty-gritty/presumed dead/unsolved child murder" set to a tune that sounds like the Beatles on valium? Yes please!

Triple post, sorry.

Just checked my balance and I've been paid so I've ordered Saturnalia by the Gutter Twins. Ta to His Royal Dudeness for the prompt, I must have f*cked up the release date cos I thought it wasn't out till the end of March. I'm completely salivating over the thought of it anyway, and I'm all the more pleased that now I've got the best part of a month to make friends with it before the gig in April.

Nice to be posting in this thread again. Continuing me catch-up from the other day, I've just ordered a replacement copy of In A Bar Under the Sea by Deus. Literate, intelligent art-rock from Belgium (of all places) with great pop sensibilities (Litte Arithmetics being a prime example), I can't wait to get listening to that again. It was only three quid as well.

That Modest Mouse album is ace, although I reckon THe Moon and Antarctica is their best. Having said that, Thomas is the man to ask about them, he f*cking loves them. Chutes Too Narrow is a f*cking belter of a record though, you'll love that, I think. Dunno about the other Shins one though, summat of a letdown, I felt.....Not heard the Ambulance LTD stuff but i saw them supporting Suede about five years ago and they were excellent.

With reference to the Distillers, Sing-Sing Death House is their best, I think. In any case, if you want to hear that sort of thing done with real balls, check out the Gits. Wonderful female fronted hardcore punk, although they disbanded in 1993 when Mia Zapata, their singer, was raped and murdered whilst walking home from a friend's house one night
