Lady_Lestat - 'I've Been Embalmed!'

'I've Been Embalmed!'

I just had a good idea.
It seems that the majority of VR members like similar genres of music, and it seems that everyone likes different bands aswell as similar ones.
SO anyway to get to the point...
Who likes the idea of a music exchange?
The idea is that if there's a band that your interested in hearing advertise here and then people can read it, if they have the music you want they can send it to you via mail, email or MSN, whatever way really! And in return they send you some music that you'd like.

This way everyone gets to hear new music and share their music with others.
So whos up for it? Any suggestions and stuff?

Discuss please...

Ok it seems that people are kinda liking this idea, so just post up adverts here for the music you are looking for.

Just read that over, sounds a bit confusing, sorry. I'm sure most of you will kinda understand it.

It might work better if you go along the lines of the the secret santa thingy last year, where we all sign up, and music is randomly distributed (anonymously) between everyone involved. With one person in the know who sends all the 'tunes out

Great idea though!

I like this idea. Anyone that's interested in any of the music I'm into, feel free to poke me on msn or add me to msn and then poke me.
I'll happily spread the electro gospel
I hope some day, for some reason, David Duchovny is investigated by the FBI. Because that would make a great story.

On another forum I sometimes frequent they had a mix CD/tape exchange thing which had all names mixed in together and then you can either have it where yjust 2 people swap between each other when their names are drawn (which tends to be easier to keep track of) or it goes out randomly.

On the old Thin Lizzy board they did a smiliar thing with rare Lizzy songs, they talked about a music share program, though i can't remember it's name. Kind of like a napster idea exept between friends, I'll try to find out more about it...

I KNOW!! Right if people who are interested post up a list of their prefered genres of music and some examples of favourite bands, THEN if you spot someone who you share tastes with then PM them and get their email address?

What do you think of that idea?

Personally I'd prefer to recieve music through MSN in MP3 form.

Hmm, good idea. I'm trying to think of a decent way to do it... the problem is if its 'anonymous' is that people would just end up with music they dont like at all...
maybe theres a good file sharing program we could use to just share in our private group... maybe someone with an uberl33t connection could set up a direct connect hub? or maybe we could use torrents? or is that taking it too far..

msn sucks for file transferring, the transfers go really slow and keep failing and getting cancelled and stuff...

bittorrent would be good, but it's tough to setup, and is a bit OTT for this kinda thing.

What I propose:

? People list what genres they are interested in (vague as possible, because you will have heard all the bands from a very specific genre)
? Everyone submits songs to myself, or whoever decides they will organise it via email
? Once all songs are received, organiser sends out appropriate tunes to everyone on the list
? Organiser can send some select other tunes outside the proposed genres, as the whole point of this is to listen to 'new' music, and expand your tastes - this is at the organisers discretion.

Thoughts?

its not going to be a quick process, is it. bearing in mind some people are on poor connections, and uploading is twice as slow as downloading.

but that doesn't concern me, so yeah, i'm all for it.

hmm, a lot of people on here use hotmail, and their accounts arent gonna hold several mp3s, or even one with their 2mb or something space...

no, hotmail aint much good for holdin files. GuildFTP let you set up ftp on yer computer, so everyone could use that, give people user names and let them take files at their own free will.

but essentially thats a waste of time. cos kazaa, etc, is the same. only my way you don't get p*rn.

edit: i just put 'no' at the start. cos i'm a prat.

Thats safer i think, since this site could get in trouble if loony hosts copyrighted music and makes it free to download, especially considering howmany non member hits this place gets - colour me paranoid but i just dont want to see loony get into trouble over this.
