If I asked you to dance,
Would we jive or would we waltz
If I bottled it and said nothing
Would it be my fault?

A quickstep might just pass us by
But a polka inspired poke around
Might lead to us lying looking at the sky
Or rolling on the ground

I’ve been turned down many times
By many a pretty dame
The dance halls all were different but
My chat up line’s the same

Whether here or across the ocean blue
The reactions never change
I never seem to pull it through
I thought dancing was all the rage

I tell them I saw superman
Dancing down the hall
They say that they don’t believe me now
Because they saw superman fall

When spider man gained spiders powers
He got the grace of their legs and feet
But spidey can’t dance a minuet
Because eight doesn’t go into three.

So maybe I’ll ask you again
Would you dance with me?
If you were to say no again
I’d be as down as down can be.

The girl I asked before you said
That she won’t dance with guys
In hindsight it was probably best
Because neither do I.

I’ll dance under the pale moonlight
We can dance under the stars
We can dance while others fight
Live with Venus and not with mars

Times passage is irrelevant
All that matters is times flaw
They say that its gods waiting room
And dancing’s what it’s for.

I tell them I saw superman
Dancing down the hall
They say that they don’t believe me now
Because they saw superman fall

When spider man gained spiders powers
He got the grace of their legs and feet
But spidey can’t dance a minuet
Because eight doesn’t go into three.

you are love to me, an epiphany,
you set me free and let me be
and one day i'll be love back for you
and you can know what it feels like too.

I don't know much about poetry, but I like that; it's pretty cool.

I love you more
Than every flower
On the stall as I go to work
Loves the sun

Because its love
For the sun
Is unrequited
The sun doesn’t want or need anyone

I love you more
Than the girl in the red shoes
With all her designer bags
Loves Starbucks

Because with one
On the corner of
Each street
Makes it impossible to have a love that’s unique

I love you more
Than those happy kids
In the winter sun
Love the carousel

Because the horses
Despite their paint
Of gold and purple
Can only take those happy kids round in circles

Our love is beyond
These things of sun and coffee
Of horses and shopping

Our love is free
To go in more than just circles
Not tied into labels and clichés
But it takes its time just to be
And this is perfect for you and me.
you are love to me, an epiphany,
you set me free and let me be
and one day i'll be love back for you
and you can know what it feels like too.

Aww the love poem is really sweet, with a lovely twist in how the verses alternate between what you love her more than and why. It's contemporary and simple, yet original.

The only thing i would say is to maybe re-think the last line? I think it tries to state the obvious when the whole poem has summed up the perfection of your love. That's just my personal opinion anyway

ok thanks very much ill lok at the last line, i liked the fact that in the same vers as saying is not tied to cliches a cliches is used...it was one of those reverse cliches (oooohhh) but i'll have a look at it thank you

These grey skies
Remind me of home

Where your grey eyes
Wait for me alone

With your fingers
Running through my hair
We’re late but we don’t care

Because we’re alone

These lost birds
Flying away

Flying in circles
They’ll be home one day

And when they return to the nest
They know how they like it best

When their alone

These walls are stained
With stories to tell
With beer and smoke, and wine as well

We’re alone.

These street lights
Must know me quite well

With their broken halos
From where they fell

Where ever you are you light up my life
Turn dark into light and make everything right

When we’re alone

Your old sheets
Are still keeping me warm

Maybe it’s the memory
Of how they’ve been worn

No-one can wear them like us
Worn with love more than with lust

When we’re alone
These walls are stained
With stories to tell
With beer and smoke and wine as well

We’re alone
you are love to me, an epiphany,
you set me free and let me be
and one day i'll be love back for you
and you can know what it feels like too.

wooden spoon

Can the darkness hold you like I do?
Keep you warm and safe,
When inside you
Know that no ones there to provide
You, with a kiss good night
And their arm around your waist.

Does the wind sing like I can?
Thought it whistles,
No sentiment is found, and
It leaves you cold, with nothing,
But shivers and old sheets where
We have led.

If I stir nothing with in you
Is it right that you move,
With this wooden spoon?
Though you refuse to mime,
I know in time,
Guilt will lead you
To claim that we: Are: Sublime.

Will the rain still wash you clean?
When you know where
You haven’t been, to and
Will time drag you in by the warmth?
And the love that has always been.

Can the sun still shine to dry you?
On bike rides by the beach,
Where we’d find, each others
Needs and in time, our feet where
We’d walk across the sand.

If I stir nothing with in you
Is it right that you move?
With this wooden spoon?
Though you refuse to mime
I know in time,
Guilt will lead you
To claim that we: Are: Sublime.

But are we fine?
We are fine.
you are love to me, an epiphany,
you set me free and let me be
and one day i'll be love back for you
and you can know what it feels like too.

When I was only 5 years old
You’d push me on the swing
We’d run around
Have a kick about
You’d encourage me in everything

And one day I will realise
One day when you’re not there
That all I’ve done in my lifetime
Is got taller and grown hair

When I was only 10 years old
You’d give me lifts about
To parties and to football practice
Or too my best mates house

And one day I will realise
One day when you’re not there
That all I’ve done in my lifetime
Is got taller and grown hair

When I was 15 years old
Not so long ago
You encouraged me in piano
None of us could have known

But despite all my Accomplishments
I’ll know when your not there
That all I’ve done in my lifetime
Is got taller and grown hair

(Here I stand before you now
A young man in his prime
I’m 19 now but not for long
Because age is only time

And one day I will realise
One day when you’re not there
That all I’ve done in my lifetime
Is got taller and grown hair)

Maybe I’ll be a superstar
Or buy a girl a diamond ring
I know whatever it is I chose
You’ll help me be the best that I can be

But whatever my Accomplishments
I’ll know when your not there
That all I’ve done in this lifetime
Is got older and lost my hair
you are love to me, an epiphany,
you set me free and let me be
and one day i'll be love back for you
and you can know what it feels like too.
