no it isnt. poetry is a fantastic method of expressing your emotions through metaphoric expressions etc. but your poems are a big pile of meaningless sh*te. you've missed the point of poetry. i can make better (however very short) poems on the spot.

well technically it can be, but it's crap if you just write about, say, a pen which has no emotional connection to you whatsoever

Shut your faces and get off your high horses. Poetry is what you make it. If you want it to be crap, let it be crap. If you want to make it all high and arty, at least be honest about it.

I think some of you missed the point to my 'Poems For The Interlectuals Trilogy.' Fools.

hmmm

just because we don't like your poetry doesn't mean that we aren't open minded.

All u seem to be doing is trying to rhyme things off. You aren't using wordplay type things like alliteration or assonance. I can't see any play on words in your poems.

Flapper the fool lives on a hill,
Flapper the fool should take his pill,
Flapper the fool flys like a fish,
Flapper the fool, boom bang bish!

Flapper Man, as graceful as a bird
Flapper Man, like cows in a herd
Flapper Man, please give him 50p
So that Flapper Man can get some tea

Should someone see my sordid song
I claim sibilance and smoke me a bong

((So there - onamateapiea (whatever), alliteration, sibilance (whatever) and similes. Happy now? Btw I'm predicted A* at both English and History (which is basically English with facts). ))

I thnk poetry can be whatever you wan it to be, I disagree that the purpose of poetry and all art is to evoke an emotianal response in the reader/viewer/whatever, that can be part of it, but I see poetry and art as a selfish medium, a way to express yourself, assert your own views, opinions, and emotions on the reader, in a way that would otherwise be impossible. Poetry doesn't have to come from the heart for it to be good, nor does it have to be charged with emotion, and evoke an emotional response in the reader.

If you wish to express yourself in 'crap' then very well, go right ahead. Personally, I don't think this poem's crap, it's not the greatest poetry in the world, it's ok, but whatever. Then again, I'm not a fan of most of the poetry on here (no offence intended to anyone) although it is much much better than anything I could ever write.

yeah, I gathered that, I'm stating that I kinda disagree with them. Art shouldn't be able to be 'defined' in a paragraph, that sums up what art is IMO, it's your own opinion as a viewer of art that decides whether something is art or not.

Personally I think it's a bit of both of your views. It's a form of personal expression, it can be meant to provoke an emotional response, or both.

Or in the case of illustration, to help the reader imagine what is happening and what things look like.
What can I say? I did it all for the Wookies.

btw, if art isnt supposed to evoke a response from its viewer than what is its purpose? yes an artist puts themselves into art but the only reason an artist would do this is to geta response from the participant/veiwer/reader therefor unless art is made to portray an emotion or to evoke an emotion it has no purpose and is superfluous to anything and therefor irrelavant

a good point, art is irrelevant, to me anyway. Art in my opinion is for the artist's own personal reasons, nothing to do with a greater good of making people feel a certain emotion, that is simply a by-product.

Robbie its no good using the same arguement everytime especially when someone has said something to present an opposing view to it already

I get the feeling this is SUPOSSED to be insulting. Maybe to poetry, yes. Oh la de da I'm expecting an A* in English.

But I however, am expected to get A's in both English and English Lit. Now, I could go and make a poem like yours, but I won't cause I'll tell you what I think of you now. You're a tw*t.

Hey, it's not supposed to be insulting, but simply you said I never used similes and the like, so, just to prove I know what they are.

Don't call me a tw*t, you don't know me.

1. I didn't mention similies. A primary school student can do similies.

2. From what I see of your retaliation to my argument I consider you a tw*t

3. There is no 3

Right, stop that right there. not allowing personal insults on here.

topic locked.

I think I gonna write up some rules for the poetry section, it's caused a lot of probs so far, and I draw the line at personal insults, that too far, criticise someones work by all means, call it sh*t if you absolutely must, but do not insult the author.
