Do we really need them at this point? Apart from making certain sentences grammatically incorrect, uneffectively missing most of the serious ones and putting *'s in the middle of the most mild of 1950s exclamations there's little that I can see they actually acheive.

We're all big boys and girls now. The only reason to censor us in the first place was so we could get online from school servers. And if that reasoning still holds true, I've seen some far more "offensive" things at the top of the page in the banner with the slogans (which also aren't my favourite thing but I can only do one thing at a time, I'm not John Major).

It also disrupts the flow of how I read. I find it hard enough to concentrate on a computer screen compared to a book page, without the filters.

I find that the starred up version actually looks ruder to me, in the same way penis often sounds ruder than the wang, dong, c*ck, willy, saveloy-mayonaise dispenser slang alternatives.

So, could you? Could you give back our f*ckst?

Sadly, no.

The reason they are there is to get around school and workplace based content filtering systems and firewalls.

The banners really annoy me, because they're basically funny to about two people. Replacing it with a list of VR quotes was suggested once and would be a much better idea. Also I hate the word 'meme'.

I reckon someone should start a thread where people post their favourite quotes from the Quote of the Day/I'll get my Quote threads...they're too much to trawl through for one person (I've tried) and if there's a thread everyone can contribute to, there's more likelyhood we can create a list that everyone will be happy with.

I think there should be a ruleless thread or mini board thingy.
Where you can post whatever you want about anything and no one is allowed to complain.
VR has too many rules. They do not foster creativity.

Columns went out like 2 years ago because the owners of said columns rarely contributed and it all went a bit stale...I don't think they'll be making a comeback since it was Andy that got rid and only he can bring them back. To be honest, as far as I care you can do whatever you like aside from posting child p*rn, I think the only way VR is really censored is the filters, which have to stay otherwise certain people couldn't get on at work or school, but if you want to start a Boudoir inspired thread in Spam, you can, there's nothing to stop you and people who didn't like it or don't want rulelessness can avoid it.

I was thinking it more in a sarcastic Irish humour kinda way. So yes, a Father Ted voice

That has been my view for some time...I've had a lot of arguments on here, but I get over them because I know it's only the internet and there's no point p*ssing about hating someone you're never likely to meet. Case in point would be Joel, but unfortunately we keep forgetting that it's only the internet and arguing again. It's a VR tradition. I'm rambling...what I mean is, even though I COULD get offended by what you've just said, I haven't, because it's the internet, a mythical place of unicorns and wine gums, and you have to take it how it was probably intended, which usually is going to be a joke or an offhand dig at someone you have no intention of ever meeting and therefore have no voice saying "Mmmm, bad idea".

You suggested a members only forum? I thought I had something to do it, and in my mind you were the one going "Don't be stupid, Claire, it'll never work", however this is probably wrong. I even recall volunteering to Mod it...but come to think of it we may have said "Oh, we'll develop the idea over the next few months and make sure Andy is OK with it" and never got round to it. If Andy is OK with it, I suggest we just have one anyway and see how it goes, it's not as if it can't be closed and all the threads moved to conversational if it all goes tits.

What would be the difference between that and the conversational board then? We can swear more? What's actually stopping us swearing lots in the other boards?
I should really look at the rules thread but boredom eminates from it and repulses my little mouse deeley.

It would be different because it would be opt-In and there are some things we can't discuss publically here, or which some people may wish to avoid. We CAN'T take the filters off on the public boards, but I think it may be possible on a hidden board, and the reason why you could do that there and not on normal VR is because of what has already been explained, people then can't access it at Work/School. But if it's contained, they can avoid it.
