I love the first three equally because I've only ever watched all three together in a row. When I was a kid my friend Rachel would come over to my house every weekend and we'd both cram into an armchair together and watch all three films in a row EVERY WEEKEND. So Star Wars was a huge part of my childhood. Beyond that I get a bit "Tim Bisley" about it all.

Same here - we never actually bought them so i used to beg anyone in the house to go rent them for me on a regular basis... Star Wars, Buck Rogers, and Star Treck were a staple diet for me as a wee un'... As to which is the best... Id agree with Fi, but that choice has gone so is old hat now.. bah... i cant choose, i know the new ones shouldnt be compared to the old though, heretic.

I always watch the original trilogy back to back so those three would be my favourites. Although, Empire Strikes Back has Yoda whacking R2-D2 with a walking stick, that always makes me laugh.

Can't stand the newer ones though.

With the whole Ewok factor, the return of the Jedi just edges it for me. I can't stand the new movies. The special effects are nice, but you can't polish a turd. They should have left it as a trilogy.

I used to love watching Battlestar Galactica on BBC2. The theme tune to that was fantastic. I used to repeatedly play it on the piano and then spend the rest of the afternoon scaring my little brother with various Cylon impressions.

Still, return of the Jedi. But it was a hard choice.

Empire had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father. Han gets frozen, taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is: a series of down endings. All Jedi had was a bunch of muppets.

Saw it on the first day of release.. The Yoda Palpatine fight looks like it will be stunning - though its come to be expected that star wars light sabre duels will be amazing to watch anyways.. Even if just for the fact they are using godamned lightsabres!

They used that quote in work, on BT's early morning breakfast show for its workers (what a joke!) I died laughing... I think its mroe due to the Anakin/Amadala rmance, that is obviousl a focal point for the film, since its eassentially going to be a crux of the plot and is one of the likely causes lined up for pushing anakin into becoming Darth (as well as him killing Palpatines apprentice and Palpatine then corrupting Anakin to the dark side)

Prototype X wings, to be pedantic. Same with the Tie fighters you see. And yes, the Clone troopers turn on the jedi - as is pointed out by one of the lines in the trilaer saying they are expelled from the republic. (presumably when palpatines apprentice is killed - though this doesnt make sense, since Anakin is sent to watch over Palpatine)

The clone wars in the films never made sense to me because i read the books set after the original trilogy, it says that the clones themselves were destroyed by the jedi and a few fighter pilots, and that all of the stormtroopers are in fact ordinary humans taken from the empires conquered worlds. The books never mention the trade federation or their allies. And the books say that the jedi were hunted down by force sensitve jedi hunters and anakin but no mention of clone troopers etc..

To be even more pedantic than Darren, theyre not prototype X-Wings at all but Z-95 Headhunters,

The X-Wing is a later ship from Incom that adopted the swing wing configuration of the Z-95.

To be honest, not much ouside of the films has ever recieved an official star wars history stamp from Lucas - hence why i take most things with a huge pinch of salt. I do know a few of the more recent games have done, as has the clone wars cartoon series and the old star wars comics did too if i remember rightly....

Some of the books had to be run past lucas especially the ones released around the time of special editions, he was also contributory to source material for the RPG game if I remember rightly which is what a lot of the games are based upon.

True. As i said, it wasnt all the stuff that wasn't classed as official and allowed to become bpart of the fluff, just most of it.

THe current RPG's have been eaten up by them though, KOTOR 1 and 2, to name just two of them. Im pretty sure both the FPS' got an honourable mention at least too.

I miss the old classic table top RPG, i used to play it at the local games clubmany moons ago, along with the Alien/Predator RPG's and Battletech! (As well as the more common GW table top games, some really old obscure GW RPG's - such as the 1976 release of The Call Of Cthulu, that i found in my attic and the White Wolf publishing stuff too!) Great days! I want them back!

Ive still got my Magic cards somewhere, some that will be worth a few quid now as well, there was a game that was similar to 40k I saw played in the games shop that used to be in Afflecks, I never found out what it was but it was miles better.

KOTOR's a whole separate section of history though, I think the Jedi Civil War's only mentioned once or twice in passing in the films. 4000 years before the current stuff, if my memory serves me correctly?

Regardless of what time frame it covers, my point was its been endorsed as actual Star Wars history by Lucas, unlike many of the other things Star Wars related out there. You'll find not much has been given this accolade if you look into it enough.

But yeah, Phil that was my point pretty much as well as what ive said above.

The story line for the films has been pre-written though, it was written when ever Lucas first thought up the idea of Star Wars, hence KOTORs story is based along side the history and story Lucas created. I admit the way the story has been handled and portrayed could have been done a little more eloquently in episode 1 but what has been published upto now has had to follow the origional guides layed down so...
